Solved Some programs not showing in registry

Hi All,

I am very confused as to why when I install some programs like COD4 and 5 and some EA games they don't seem to show in the registry, is this normal surely if there are not in the registry somewhere then they would not function at all?

Hello Wizkid,

In the registry they may appear under the publisher name instead.

Did you mean as shortcuts in the Start Menu instead? If so, the shortcuts for them will most likely be in the Games (Games Explorer) button on the Start Menu instead.

Hi Brink,

This is a picture of the registry, they show up in program files as the maker of the game but I can't seem to find the maker of the games in the registry some are there but not others.

I'm sure it's in the registry somewhere if the game is installed. You might search the registry with Activision, COD4, or the name it has for it in C:\Program Files (x86) to see if it can find the location for it then.

Thanks for your reply.

This is what happens when I serach for Activision and COD4, it jsut goes to a list of keys and not the folder its self.

You'll have to keep clicking the Find Next until it may find the actual Key (folder) and not just a DWORD name or value.

Hi,

I thought that I would be able to look in the registry and find the folder and not have to type in the maker of the game and find it that way, I have been unable to find the folder by typing it in, does this mean that the registry is corrupt??

Did you install from the administrator account? Did you get any errors on the install?

Yes this is on an Admin account, there was no errors during the install or after.

They are there, you're just looking in the wrong location,

When running Vista (or XP) x64 you will find the registry entries for most (won't say all as some manage to go to the wrong folder) in the Wow6432Node folder.

Ok thanks I have found it now, I knew it would be there somewhere. Do you know why vista puts some software in that folder?

Same reason there is a Program Files and a Program Files (x86) folder, so you know which installed applications/registry entries are 64 bit or 32 bit. Little more to it than that, but that is pretty much it in its simplest form.
