Daemon Toolz supports 64bit natively, even the free version: - THE DAEMONS HOME

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5 said:
THIS VERSION SUPPORTS 32 AND 64 BIT OS (Microsoft Windows XP, Windows2003, Windows 2000, VISTA) !!

Plus, any 32bit program can run in a 64bit OS - the reverse is not true. 64bit processes cannot run in a 32bit OS.

I use DAMN! NFO viewer every day on my system, as well as Adobe Flash player, Adobe Shockwave player, but they require a 32bit browser - which most mainstream browsers still are (IE comes installed on a 64bit version of Windows as *both* 32bit and 64bit, so you can use 64bit for speed, and use 32bit wherever flash . shockwave is needed / required).

Mozilla Firefox *is* being built as 64bit also, just not by Mozilla - see Mozilla for Windows x64 platform and 64bit and x64 - Firefox - x64 version

JAVA 64bit is also available - with the same limitations regarding 32bit versus 64bit browsers when using sites that implement JAVA - for JAVA JRE see https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHO...ProductRef=jre-6u10-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer and under platform select Windows 64; for JAVA JDK see https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHO...ProductRef=jdk-6u10-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer and under platform select Windows 64

Finally, for K-Lite codec pack - get rid of it and use the Vista Codec Pack, which *does* include x64 extensions.

Uhm...sorry guys...but saying there are 64 bit versions of all programs is nonsense. However, all of the programs on the list should work fine on the 64 bit Vista install, even if the programs themselves are 64 bit. The only thing is that you won't be able to run a 64 bit internet browser with flash content, as there is no flash player in 64 bit.

I don't know about all of the programs, but I do know about these:
There is no 64 bit version of MS office. MS has even said there won't be one for a while.
There IS a version of Daemon Tools out which says it's 64 bit....however, they simply mean it's 64 bit compatible....if you run it and look in taskmanager, it will still have the *32 next to its name, which signifies that it's a 32 bit program. However, it runs fine.
KLite codecs....don't know if they're out...but why do you want a codec pack? it's easier to either get a few loose codecs (I only have a few installed myself, namely the 64 bit version of ffdshow and the 64 bit version of xvid). If you install these, also make sure that you correct the shortcut to windows media player...cos normally vista 64 opens the 32 bit one....
OR you could just use VLC.... it's much easier than having to install codecs....
Firefox...they're working on a 64 bit version. However....it's no use yet, as there's no 64 bit flash, so you won't be able to visit half the sites out there....there's beta versions though.

Once again....ALL of the 32 bit versions of the software you mentioned will most likely work on the 64 bit Vista. There's very little software that won't. The only, and I do mean ONLY thing you really need the 64 bit versions of are all the drivers for your hardware. And they usually come with the hardware, AND are available on the sites of the hardware vendors.

So go right ahead, format and install vista 64.

I'm running it right now, and it works like a charm.

Good luck finding Microsoft's 64bit versions of: Microsoft Office, and Windows Live Messenger. Let us, and Microsoft, know where you found them. :)

At any rate from an actual user:

Microsoft Office 2003 & 2007 have full functionality under Vista64, so does Windows live messenger.

Adobe Reader also works as well. I'm also thinking I had an older version of winrar up and running as well, but you can always try the trial version.

As for Adobe Flash - we're all waiting on that one. :(

I suggest you use the 32bit version of Internet Explorer, which can be found in your x86 Programs File folder for your flash and java needs... Unless you create flash based content, in that case, you'll need to hang with or use a 32bit OS

Hope this helps.

Good luck with your new system.

ok..... now I'm starting to wonder whether you are actually reading the replies....

there's two codecs I know of. And to be honest, you don't really need any more, as they play everything. ffdshow is available in 64bit, and xvid is available in 64 bit. Like I said before. However, make sure you browse the tutorial section on how to activate the 64 bit mediaplayer instead of the 32 bit version, as that's the one which is the active mediaplayer in vista, unless you change it yourself.

OR you could just install VLC and be done with it. You won't need any of this.

And I will say it ONE more time. 32 bit software works on the 64 bit version of vista. There is no need and in fact, hardly any noticable difference in performance if you were able to run everything in 64 bit. IF there's any difference at all...especially in the software you want to use. Maybe with games, but not with these types of programs.

I just don't get why you need everything to be 64 bit.

Memory efficiency and performance.

"If" there are 64bit drivers/software, then get them, if not, its not the end of the world. Some, not all, 32bit drivers and software can and does run rather well in a 64bit environment. For those that don't...that's where the plus and minus factor comes in... and you make your decision(s).

Yes, in a perfect world, all apps would be available in 64 bit. In fact, in a perfect world, there wouldn't be a 32 bit version of windows 7 coming out.... unfortunately, it seems that the transition to 64 bit isn't going over all that smoothly.

At some point fairly early in the Vista hype they said they wanted to make it 64-bit only.. I would not have minded. It would have been a good "line in the sand" for performance. Of course it would have butchered sales to all those low-end machines that are being discussed in the lawsuits. Aww...

The only thing 32-bit Windows 7 will be good for is netbooks and dangerously low-specced desktops/laptops. In fact by the time Windows 7 ships I wouldn't be surprised if the Atom (or future descendant) is 64-bit anyway. With any luck they will make 32-bit the OEM exception and not the rule this time.

Well...seeing as windows 7 will be shipping next year, I think that we will still see a lot of nettops being sold with the current atoms in there. Though I would also love it if everything would switch to 64 bit.

I did read an article somewhere that during this year there was a shift in the sales of windows versions. For the first time there were more 64 bit versions sold than 32 bit. All due to the fact that people want more than 3 GB in their computers.....

ok..... now I'm starting to wonder whether you are actually reading the replies....

there's two codecs I know of.

Everything works fine.
