Vista giving me a real hard time please help!!!!

Hi,

i really need help...well my computer does!

i've installed vista ultimate 64 on my computer. and ever since it either blue screens driver error which i have updated my graphics card. still blue screens

and some time it just randomly freezes the hard drive light flashes but the mouse or keyboard or nothing on screen works at all.

i really like vista but with this problem its forcing me to go back to xp and i dont want to

My Spec:
amd 64 x2 3.00ghz
4gb ram
nvidia px 7950 gx2 graphics card
2 x 500gb sata hd

Hi ISHY,

Have you installed the latest chipset drivers and BIOS for your motherboard yet? This can sometime cause problems like this.

Is your power supply powerful enough to handle the load of your computer? Usually 500 to 600 watts is good.

Double check to see if the computer may be overheating? Usually by leaving the side of the case open temporarily as a test for maximum airflow. Clean and blow out any dust and cobwebs found.

i have currenlty a 580 hiper power supply.
the tempetaure seems to be fine.i have 6 fans taking air in and one big one taking air out.

the bios i have updated to the lastest i cant find anything newer. and chipset aswell.

this problem has only started since i put vista on. i ran xp64 on the same machine for about a year.

You might try formatting the hard drive and doing a fresh clean reinstall of Vista again. Your first install may have been corrupted by something.

yes i did incounter some problems when installing vista i kept getting blue screens and there was something wrong with 4gb ram and needed an update.

Take 2GB of ram out and then install.

After the install is complete, you can add the RAM back. Sometimes a board will not support installing a 64 bit OS with more than 3 GB of RAM.

okay i will do that this is so annoying it keeps freezin up. what do you recomend as for the drivers? i dnt have any driver cd. or shall i use driver magician?

You could download the drivers directly from the device manufacturer's website, or from your OEM computer's website.

Okay done a clean install..installed the most up to date drivers but still computer keeps on freezing.

even when i do a windows update it will update everything execpt for the graphics driver it says failed.

ISHY,

Doublecheck to make sure that the graphics card is seat all the way in and properly on the motherboard. Afterwards, see if downloading and installing the drivers here from NVIDIA will work for you.

What is the model number and brand of your computer? I will see if I can find the chipset drivers for it on the manufacturer's website.

i have a fatality an9 32x motherboard i built the pc myself.

the graphics card is seated properly in just double checked.

Do you have a multimeter? Test your 12V rails with it. Yellow is + and black is - on a molex. Add/remove your video drivers and restart. Get a driver cleaner to remove any ATI or Nvidia video drivers. Try doing a Windows Update and see if it can finish.

I cannot find any chipset drivers for your Fatal1ty AN9 32x motherboard, just the BIOS that you already have.

Have you tried the new 178.24 video drivers from the link in my post above to see if they work any better?

Hi,
yes ive downloaded the new driver you told me to but not i have a problem at start up...it will boot but after the splash screen the screen just stays black and i have to restart a few times before i can get it to work.

Are you able to boot into Safe Mode without any problems?

If yes, then uninstall one of your device drivers one by one while in Safe Mode and restart the computer until you find out which one is the problem when it boots normally again.

Another option is to do a clean install again, and only install one driver at a time followed by restarting the computer until you find out which one is causing the problem. Once you find it, just uninstall the bad driver from within Safe Mode.
