I'm logged in as a system administrator and i cannot stop the services trough task manager. I tried to modify the services.msc file to allow permissions for administrator as full control but it cannot be done. Check box Full control is unable to be checked.
Open the RUN box and type in Services.msc
and press ENTER.
Scroll down the list of services till you get to the one you want to change.
Right click on the service name and from the drop down menu, select "Properties".
In the properties window, you can turn a service on or OFF and change the way it runs, from Automatic, to Manual , to Disabled. Take your pick.
Be careful though, disabling some services can completely disable windows or your internet connection.
You might want to go to the "Black Viper" website and look at his recommended list of services to disable. I did that and took all my services to disable from the SAFE column. So's not to have to do the same thing on every PC I work on, I wrote a batch file to shut down the least useful 22 services.
