Issue with moving files

I have a bit of a problem with moving files around...instead of trying to explain it Ill just list the things that is wrong:

ctrl+C, ctrl-V, ctrl+X does not work

trying to cut/copy/paste from right clicking does not work

drag/drop does not work

I CAN open the file and Save As.. to put the file where I want it

This is exclusively with files, I can do whatever I want with text without a problem

everything is available to use in the right-click menu, and when I cut a file it shades the file, but if I try to paste it somewhere else it does nothing, the file stays shaded where it originally was.

Any advice? it started a few days ago and I havent installed anything that would cause it to do that.

You might see if runnina sfc /scannow command can find and fix any bad system files that may be causing this.

Thanks for the quick response, the SFC didnt detect anything but the copy to/move to tutorial you posted worked great.


When I go to add/remove programs any program that I click on comes back with this:



^Thats just an example program I used

If I click YES it keeps the program in the list, so this, too, is unresponsive to files.

You might give a repair (upgrade) install a try. It should fix the problem.

can u delete the file?if not, i think its because of some update..the hotfix update that makes copying files faster on vista back then..i have this prob too when installing that hotfix..

Yes, I am able to delete the file.

I have auto update off and I haven't updated in a while, the problem just started recently(2-3 days ago)

Since it was just this recent, you might consider doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before this to see if can fix the problem without having to any kind of reinstall to.
