Having problems running a program on my new machine

It was written for a win 98 box, and when I try to run it on my vista 64 bit os it tells me it can't be run. I have tried running it in win98 emulation, and xp 32 bit emulation(works on both of these machines I have) but even in emulation mode it tells me it is not able to run. Any ideas, or do I toss Vista or dual boot with xp? This is a custom program I paid 1K for 10 years ago-- I really don't want to have to pay someone double that to re-write it.

I am currently gathering the drivers to switch it back to XP, I will have to lose 2 gigs of ram, but that is better than paying to rewrite these programs

You just need to get them to 32-bit code. You don't need 64-bit coding. I would consider getting a price on newer software.

System One

  • CPU
pair of Intel E5430 quad core 2.66 GHz Xeons
    Motherboard
    Supermicro X7DWA-N server board
    Memory
    16GB DDR667
    Graphics card(s)
eVGA 8800 GTS 640 MB video card
    Hard Drives
    SAS RAID
The original was actually written in 16 bit. Since it was a custom program that I use frequently, as long as I don't have to pay someone to convert it, I will live in a 32 bit environment. From use, I really don't see much use as of yet for the 64 bit os. Heck, there are very few programs out there even written to take advantage of its strengths. Hi ho, hi ho I have a computer to re format and install XP on.

The original was actually written in 16 bit.

Yeah 16bit code is no longer supported on any Operating System because of the inherent security and code problems , also there are heaps of 64bit applications around already :geek:
