System Restore to earlier point not working

I run 32-bit Home Premium. Me and my brother (separate computers) both got the errors that wouldn't let us boot up. He restored to an earlier point successfully, but mine won't let me. It just says unsuccessful. I only want to do a full system restore as the last resort. Any other methods to restore without a FULL restore? Thanks in advance.

do your system restore in Safe mode. ( Turn power off, then back on. Navigate to Safe Mode, press Enter.)
