iTunes and External Hard Drives

Can I put all my music and videos on an external hard drive and use then in iTunes? Do I have to set up the external hard drive in a special way to do this or is it just plug in and go?


Assume I'm very computer illiterate.

Well, I'm not sure with iTunes, but I know it works with WMP11. All I did was plug my external drive in, rip my music to the external (or move music I'd already ripped). Then you set the library to the file on the external.

I doubt iTunes won't let you do that; if so, Apple probably doesn't deserve your business, since that's a pretty simple thing for them to do.
