Frozen Start bar

Every now and again, a strange thing happenes to my start bar.
It completely freezes, and I can't click anything on there apart from the start button. I can't select any tabs, or use the system tray.

If that doesn't happen, sometimes the Start button decides to freeze instead. Basically it goes dark (like it does when it has been pressed) and then it stays like that and it won't let me open it.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Hi Frozen,

Not sure what may be causing it, but you can press CTRL+ALT+DEL and either logoff and logon or restart the computer to fix the problem until next time.

You can look in the Event Viewer Windows logs to see if anything stands out at you for a cause.

Logoff etc works, but it is very inconvenient.
How do you check Event logs?

Frozen,

In the Start menu white line (Start Search) area, type eventvwr.msc and press Enter. This will open Event Viewer.

In the left pane, expand the Windows Logs folder and look through each log (Application or System) that will be displayed in the middle pane to see if anything is listed as a error at or around the time the Start bar freezes on you. It may help if you see the same program or event listed each time it happens.

Cheers, will do if this happens again. There doesn't seem to be any trigger for this, it just happens randonly.
