IRQL BSOD - SATA drive related?

I had 2 RAID drives in my machine before and did not get this error, but managed to break the guide on the back of the hard drive (oops, who knew they were so fragile!). So I put the working drive on a separate non-RAID SATA port. Now I get these random IRQL Not Less or Equal bluescreens.

Right now, I'm trying to see if it bluescreens again with the drive on a different port. Anyone else run into this issue?

Yes my memory works fine. I have 4gigs of RAM. No I haven't tried removing one to see if it stabilized or upping the voltage. If this doesn't work, I'll try that next. Yes I have KB929777. Yes I've tried disabling onboard lan / sound on the mb... I had this machine running with nothing but a HD and video card and it still BSODed.

I'm crossing my fingers.

Drivers, bios and windows updates are all up to date.

i here it has something to do with Nvida drivers and that reloading them can fix this problem.....
i also had this fault a while ago...can t quite remember but i think i did re load some Nvidia driver

Well, so far no BSODs. *knocks on wood*
By now I would have gotten one so I'm hopeful this particular problem is done.

My OTHER problem now is this "Host Process for windows services stopped working and was closed" message I get from time to time is still showing up. It shut down Vista for me last time (happened when I was closing Illustrator) and rebooted. But it's happened randomly at other times, often removing the Aero skins while it's at it. Very odd.

I've heard SP1 is supposed to resolve it, but I've also heard from people who have the release candidate for SP1 saying that it didn't resolve it. Looks like a lot of people are stumped on this particular problem.

Look in your error logs for more information.
Also look in your performance logs.
These can both be found if you click on start,
right click on my computer and choose manage.

As regards to your system specs, if you put them in your sig file it will save you having to type them in every time you post.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice-- and I would do what you suggested except that I just installed SP1 and it hosed my Vista into oblivion... looks like I will have to reinstall Vista. *sigh*

I get a black screen of death with the following when I try to boot:

!! 0xc0000034 !! 289/116448 (_0000000000000000.cdf_ms)

Safe mode doesn't work either... it just hangs.
Repair off the DVD attempted to repair my boot manager, but when it restarts I still get the same error / problems.

Oh hm.... I'm trying the DVD repair again and now it's allowing me to restore... maybe it's still salvageable....
