Ahh where to begin.. I'm working on a Gateway GT540, (Me thinks computer specifics have no influence in my problem) and it starts with a "I cant get a dial tone" I find out later that this is a problem with the the NID on the ISP's side. In troubleshooting this problem, I find that everytime i try to open the control panel, or computer, or much of anything else for that matter... Explore crashes and all i have left is an empty desktop and a cursor. Sometimes Explore comes back... sometimes it doesn't. I've googled this problem every which way i can with no perfect fix.
I did manage, through many failed... "approches" if you will, to get into my control panel long enough to fix my internet problem. I learned that the only window i could keep open without either dissapearing on me, or crashing Windows Explore, is Internet Explore. Once there i go into my "c:windows/system32" folder, and Ahhhhh yesss!! I want to allow it to do so!!! I created a new folder on my desktop, and cut and pasted a few .cpl files from system32 to this new folder. (The ones that could be pasted without giving me beef about my permissions) After doing so Vista would allow me into my control panel/ computer/ network etc... but if i reboot...Im boned.
I now only have to go through the process mentiond above, and go as far as open my system32 folder, and view the files. And like magic i can open my control panel/ computer, what have you.
So is there anyone out there, and i know you're out there cause you've helped me get this far
, that has a solution to end this nightmare of mine? Any help is greatly appreciated!
