My problem is my windows would stop animating as if I had the visual effect off.
When does this occur?
Alt tabbing from WoW a lot
Sometimes after exiting wow
Watching youtube
Stage6.com
That's all I've noticed so far (although thats all I've been doing)
I did some research and been reading about dwm but it doesnt help me at all.
I've searched google for this issue for the past 3 days and nothing. I've posted on MS boards and nothing.
I've updated my nvidia drivers to the beta and it doesn't do anything.
Anyway here's the error in the event viewer:
The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application
A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (World of Warcraft)
Yes, it DOESN'T HELP AT ALL.
This is getting really frustrating and I'm going to format and start fresh this week if noone has any ideas or I can't resolve this although it probably wouldn't work either but at least I can knock one more off the list.

Hi grayprint,
Welcome to Vista Forums.
I have noticed that sometimes when there is a problem when switching to game mode that it can cause a problem like this. You might try running the
World of Warcraft game in XP SP2 Compatibility mode to see if it helps.

Hmm even if that works for wow, what about IE? DivX web player and flash seems to cause this also.
grayprint,
I'm not sure about the others. I would have to guess that it was a add-on or codex that may not be completely compatible with Vista causing it.

I see. Well looks like I'll probably go back to XP because without that visual effect, Vista is like XP with an average visual style.
Apart from my other problems such as DivX web player doing absolutely no post processing at all even with the option checked (its like watching google video with the smooth video option turned off).
Photo zooming with Vista's native image viewer is also horrible. XP blurred the image, Vista's is just pixelated.
I really wanted Vista to work but these problems are stopping me. I just updated to SP1 also and none of these issues were resolved. I guess I'll wait till more people share my problems so that MS can fix them hopefully.
I mean, everything worked and installed flawlessly, they just don't work well.
Is there any way to force it to stay on?

No the scan says all my files are 100% verfied
Ok. The only thing that I know of is to uninstall the programs that are triggering this and replace them with versions that are fully compatible with Vista. As for IE7, look through the add-ons and disable the ones that you determine are triggering this.
Sorry,
Shawn

But I believe I've found theculprit. Yahoo 9 Beta seems to be causing this.
I'm glad you found what was causing the problem. Thank you for the feedback.

I also have the same problem, ive been running yahoo messenger 9.0 on a separate machine with vista 32bit and ym9.0 seems to play well with it. i dont think ym9.0 beta is causing this.
I still dont have a fix for this issue, seems like its extremely rare.
