i have had this for a while, and i have no idea what it is, just a little white square in top left corner of screen

doesnt appear in full screen apps or windows, only on desktop (even if i change pic)

when i have no programs running the only thing in task manager - applications is ASUS ACPI Cneter

could it be that?? what is that??

doesnt affect comp in any way just annoying seeing it there

please see attatched pics, first is full desktop shot, second is zoomed and highlighted

so as the title says... anyone know what it is??

Thanks

Hi RellikZephyr,

That is strange. Have you tried changing the desktop background to something different to see if it may just be part of your current one?

Interesting,

Try uninstalling your video driver in Device Manager, then reinstall them again from the driver installation file. This will see if your driver may have been corrupted any.

LOL RellikZephyr,

Pesky little thing isn't it. :sarc:

Have you tried adjusting the screen resolution to some other size as a test? I would do the same for screen refresh rate, and change the Color bit to 16 bit and then back to 32 bit.

grr... it remains in both 16 bit and 32 when i change back

also remains at all resolutions... interestingly the square resizes with resolution

higher resolution = smaller square and vice versa

RellikZephyr,

I'm stumped. I do not what else to test to see what it may be from except:

Does it do anything when click or right click on the square?

Hi RellikZephyr,

Try this... go to control panel (classic view), select folder options, go to the view tab, scroll down til ya see "Use check boxes to select items". If there is a check mark there, take it out. If not, try selecting it, hit apply and deselect it and hit apply again. Did that work?

Thanks Snarky. I was about to blow a vein trying to figure this thing out. As the old saying goes, "The hardest thing to see is what is staring you right in the face." . :o

I don't know what the select folder options has to do with the little white box but I found the solution on another forum and had to post this.

The little white box in the top corner is an ATI grahpics card driver issue with Catalyst 8.1, simple right click on the ATI Catalyst control center icon in your system tray and then choose exit and it will disappear.

They should be fixing it in the next release.

hi

Brink, nothing happened when clicked, double clicked and no menu came up when right clicked (though it should)

Snarky, checked it was deselected to start with, so i selected (square remained) then deselected again (square still remains!)

low, you are the man!!! exited ATI CCC and square disappeared

meaning that ATI did not fix this problem for Catalyst 8.2 as they are what i am running

actually thinking about it, does anyone know when the Vista 64 ATI Omega drivers are going to be released i have been waiting for them

Thanks everyone your all champions!!

Well either I'm stupid or something is still wrong...I have the same white square but when I attempted to shut down Ati CCC (via an end process as it was not in the applications section) the white box remained. I tried downloading the latest ATI CCC driver (8.5) but when I try to run the install I get this error: "Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software." I just got Vista...and I don't know where ANYTHING is...or how to check on much. Please...HELP...thanks :D
