Strange Icon for iPod Appears Out of Nowhere

Does anyone happen to know where this icon may have come from and how I might get rid of it? It shows up when I plug in my iPod. I have restored the iPod and this didn't help. When I boot into safe mode, the icon is no longer there if that helps any.

u can hide it..where u cant see it..but it will still be there...but theres no way u can notice it..

where ever it shows up
hit the shift key and right click on your mouse
open command window here

in the command prompt type "attrib +h (filename)"

replace filename with the name of icon...it should work..
sorry its a bit confusing

Yes, and it only appears with my iPod mini not my iPod Video. I think I had the iPod mini plugged in when I installed Roxio Media Creator 9. I believe this may have been the culprit. I have since restored my computer to before installing Roxio but the icon remains. Any idea how to remove the icon from my iPod?

I know, it's very wierd. I'm going to keep tinkering with it. I haven't tried taking the iPod to another computer to see if the icon shows up there. Maybe it is in the iPod itself? I'm not sure. I may just have to live with it. It's not that bad, really. I think I'm just being anal. :-)

BTW....it looks like we have practically the same PC configuration. HA! I can't wait to get my hands on one of those new 45 nm quads once they become readily available.

I remember a while ago all the icons under Devices with Removal Storage were the same. After a windows update (i think it was a mass storage device update), all of my icons changed to more intuitive icons (a new ipod icon just like yours and new icons for removable drives like my memory stick).

I still have the icons except for my ipod icon, which changed back to the origial one. I want it back.

One suggestion though: go to the ipod drive's properties, the customize tab, and change the folder picture. Changing the icon doesn't work for me, but try it.

Thanks for the info jim817 but I tried the tutorial for Drive Icon Change and this does not work. Also, this strange icon only appears for my iPod mini. All of my other iPods, Video and shuffle, appear with the standard removable storage icon. I leave the iPod mini plugged in most of the time so I'm assuming that something I've installed recognized the iPod mini and assigned an icon to it. Interestingly enough, when I boot into safe mode, the standard icon reappears.
