Hi guys, kinda new to vista, so this is probably a stupid question. I am a gamer, and I want to create a user account that loads the minimal resources. I browsed the tutorials and didnt find a thing. I obviously will have antivirus etc on my normal account, and I want to know how to create a account that loads the bare minimum. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks guys, sorry for the noob question :D.

What do you mean with a user with bare minimum ?
You can create a user from the Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Accounts and then click "Create new Account" ... This will create a normal user without administrative rights, if this is what you mean ..

You used to be able to do this in XP with profiles, but for some strange reason that option was retired in Vista, and as yet I have not seen any way to do it

No, unless i'm missing something there is no way to select which services to run via the user account setting.

Ok, I think there is a misunderstanding .. what exactly on XP are you refering to ?
You can still create user, assign them to a group and create local group policies .. I think I don't understand what you mean LOL ..

Hardware profiles, you could set XP via the hardware profiles to run on minimal resources, this function was suposed to be used to save power on laptops etc, but was used by lots of gamers to reduce overheads.

Were they not called Hardware profiles rather than User profiles?

Yes, they were. And you can still use them ... kinda.
Vista creates new hardware profiles automatically based on the hardware (e.g. laptop etc.).
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories then Administrative Tools.
Click the Services option.
Right click a service that you want to disable and click Properties.
Click the Log On tab.
The available hardware profiles will be listed at the bottom of the window.
Select the appropriate profile from the list and click the Disable button.
Click OK.
