Vista x64 wont install

New Member
Purchased a copy of windows vista ultimate and installed the 32 bit bit version and everything runs perfect, however when i try to install the 64 bit version my computer freezes either during the installation or right after the install is complete.


Ive tried everything. Installed on different hard drive, used different memory, different power supply, different CD rom drive, absolutely nothing will get the installation to not freeze. The windows event viewer is useless. I even tried 3 different install cd's. It's not overheating as far as i can tell either. Like i said vista 32 runs perfect so i cant understand whats going on?!?!


Should I RMA my motherboard? Ever heard of a cpu being defective in this way?

Welcome to the forum. :party:

When you are installing the 64 bit Vista, are you doing it as a clean install? You cannot do a upgrade install from the 32 bit Vista to the 64 bit version.

Take a look at this tutorial for help on how to do this if your 32 bit Vista is a Upgrade version.

Thanks for the replies.

It is a clean install not from an upgrade. Also my psu is rated at 610 watts. Im almost positive that driver fix will have no effect since the installation is booting from the cd. Madness I tell ya, madness !!!

Give the bios update a shot, I'd put money on it solving your issue.

I had issues with install vista when I got my board (bios was 1 year old when I installed the new board). Updated the bios to the latest one and away I went. Good luck!

I had updated the bios a while back. =(

Just for kicks i reverted back to an older bios and the same problem still happens. Really frustrating.

I upped the ram voltage too same thing still freezes.

Try lowering the RAM voltage a bit below normal. This was sometimes the problem with the more than 3GB of RAM issue. It might be worth a shot even though you only have 2GB.

Did you also update your chipset drivers from the same link above?
