Fixed my Vista ultimate from freezing

First of all Hi,

Ive recently got a gaming pc and installed Vista ultimate. Since then its been crashing after 10 to 15 min of gameplay. Anyway, My spec are Core 2 duo 3.0, 4gig of ram and a p5n32-e sli plus motherboard. To fix the "freezing", I had to remove a 2 gig of ram.

Anyone else had to do this to fix vista from freezing?

Anyone know if SP1 or any update will fix Vista for computer with more than 2 gig of ram ? Ive downloaded the window update 929777 but it did not fix anything and im still running with 2gig of ram. Kinda sucks to have 2gig of ram laying on my desk.

Did you install the right 929777 (you need to make sure you got the 64-bit one)? Also, I'm seeing some people have fixed the problem by reinstalling 929777. Other people are blaming that particular motherboard. Seems the real trouble might be with the nVidia chipset. Might want to look for new drivers or BIOS there.

i had the EXACT same problem for the first 3-4 days using this new 'main' PC.

specs are in my sig, but running x64 ultimate i had 'memory error' blue screens and frequent crashes until i removed 2GB. i found that 2GB of RAM was bad, so i've returned and am waiting for the replacement. running with 2GB, it's 100% stable.

Yea, i updated the bios and got the 929777 patch for 64bit. The only thing i can do now is check if my ram is good or broken i guess.


edit: windows memory tool did not find anything bad.

This is probably a BIOS Device Memory Mapping Issue. I've been having similar issues. Using my ENE 5-in-1 Memory Card Reader causes BSODs with the upper 2GB of RAM installed. Forget about the Hotfix, it's the BIOS!!!

If your PC falls into the "Unknown" category for Vista x64 in the
"Vista Hardware Compatibility List," you can be fairly certain that you PC manufacturer hasn't released a Vista x64 compliant BIOS yet.

I have no idea if my Asus p5n32-e plus motherboard is compatible with vista. On asus website, the bios update ive installed was for "all OS". I have added 1 more gb of ram for a total of 3gb and everything is fine... But if i get up to 4gb of ram the screen goes nut and the computer restart when im on vista or playing a game.

OK i Fixed it ! Im back to 4gb of ram. I had to lower the ram speed from 800mhz to 780mhz with the bios. Its kinda strange but its working now anyway. Thanks for your support.

You should also check the QVL for you mobo. I have the same problem when I use 4GB until check QVL and change my memory model.
