Directplay help

I have a game which requiers directplay (8?) on it but I have direct X 10, which does not come with directplay. I've tried searching up on the internet for ways to install it manaully but they all say that they only work with windows xp.

Or is there some way that I could roll back to direct x 8 and then go to direct x 9.0c, because everything i've found only rolls back direct x 9 to 8 and not 10 to 8.

Well I can play the game, but I can't play an online campaign without directplay. Sorry about that.

The game is Starfleet Command 2:Orion Pirates.

Do you mean avast anti-virus, if thats what you mean then no I don't use it.
What version of directplay comes with vista?

As far as I know voice speaking is not needed for connecting to the online campaign. (or in starfleet command 2 at all)
