Game laggggg!!!!!

My computer has always worked just fine with games and it has a pretty good graphic card and ram. It has never lagged before, but when I tried to play Red Alert and then Civ 4, it runs fine and then has horrible lag. I thought restroing my computer would fix the problem, but no. Still remains laggy. Options?

it maybe a problem with your cooling, the way you described your problem points towards overheating processor or graphics card, even though i would suggest cleaning out the fans, i wouldnt recommend doing it yourself if you arent confident with digging around in your system, i would suggest taking your computer to your local computer store and asking them to blow it out with the compressed air if they have it.
