Solved COD4 iw3sp.exe not working for .iso

I bought cod4 (which works with disc) and wanted to play without the disc through an ISO. the multiplayer works fine but when opening single player it comes up with the error iw3sp.exe has stopped working.

Now i have looked through the other threads but nothing is working for me.

I am running Vista32
i made the ISO using toshiba disc creator and mount it with daemon tools lite
note: multiplayer works perfectly with the mounted ISO

please help.

Please could you fill in your system specs under User CP, it's always helpful for us to refer to when helping you.

Are you sure the disk is mounting correctly?

COD4 will run in multiplayer without a disk but requires it for you to be able to play single which would explain the problem.

Make sure the ISO is not corrupt.

Make sure you are opening single player mode using the ISO and not using a shortcut.

Make sure the ISO is mounting as drive D:\ although this shouldn't make a difference.

Please post back with any results.

Hi thanks for replying i have updated my system specs.

Its not the ISO and it is mounting correctly and everything as multiplayer is working, i made a second ISO still no luck with single player.

NOTE: multiplayer works fine with the disc and with the mounted ISO,
single player works fine with the disc but error occurs when opening with the mounted ISO.

Hi, multiplayer will run fine with or without a disk or ISO anyway so that would explain why that would run whereas single player, which requires a disk or ISO, wouldn't run correctly. This may just be a copy protection feature of the disk; if it is there's not much we can do.

If this error is not copy protection related then upon further investigation this error appears to be a known issue generally.

Have a look at this thread on the topic http://www.vistax64.com/gaming/171179-cod4.html and try anything that you haven't already tried.

See if it will work in Safe Mode as well.

If you want to play without the DVD/CD, (saves disk wear and scratches), download and use a no DVD/CD patch.

Make sure the game is patched to the latest version and get the corresponding no DVD/CD patch.

do i have to download each patch or just the latest

Download the 1.6 patch, its a big one, 282Mb, then the 1.7 patch.
