pc game wont load on vista

i am trying to play "Crime Stories" and i can get it to download but when i try to launch it the screen goes black. and i cant do anything. i have to hit the ctrl/alt/delete to get back to normal screen. then a box pops up saying this requires d3rdrm.dll and this version of windows no longer has it. i have tried downloading the d3drm.dll file but it does nothing i have updated the directx thing. i am stuck and just wanted to play and hoping i have not wasted money.

yeah lots have had that issue , its because Vista doesnt come with that old DX file , the only fix i know is to add the file manually , where did you put it?.........

C:/windows/system32 or C:/windows/sysWOW64 ?

OK its like it doesnt download cause i cant find it anywhere on my pc. so i saved it to desktop and tried it that way i get there is no program in the set associate. so i go there to i guess choose one it gives me a bunch of diff things to choose from. i havent picked 1 yet. dont know which one to pick

ok i understand how to download the file to the pc and where to put it but when i download it it it asked which program i want to use to open it.

good grief dude , you dont open it you put it into either


C:/windows/system32 or C:/windows/sysWOW64

;) so you manually drag and drop the downloaded file into either of those folders , if you have 64 bit vista put it in both :)

ok calm down i appceciate the help. but your not understanding what im saying.... i will try to explain it better. when i click on this link d3drm.dll download - free dll files
i click open a window pops up and tells me " this file does not have a program associated with it for preforming this action. create an association in the set associations control panel" word for word this is what i am told.
this is where i dont know what to do. it wont download.
i hope this is more clear on what my problem is

finally i got the file to download. but the game still does not work. when i go to extract the files(i am suppose to do that right?) its says there was a problem with the encripted do you want to continue with out it.

thats a shame , then it seems its its just not compatible , you have done everything you can unless someody else has any suggestions

you could try loading it in compatability mode , worth a try at least

neither worked. is it possible to run 2 diff windows version on the same pc. like i have vista now can i add a new user account and use xp on there

You can install a Virtual HDD, there are lots out there, if you Google it you will find them.
Before installing, read any tutorials you can find, or any articles on Virtual HDD's.
