Cryo, is a FPS game from 1c which is a Russian DEV Team. The game is PC only. It uses, DX10 or 9. Looks best in DX10. It has Quick Save and Load which IMHO is a absolute for PC gaming.

Here's a Review of the Russian Version ::

Before this game gets slammed by *official* reviews that don't see much value or quality in games that are not accompanied by truckloads of ad campaigns cash, let me just quickly say ... the game has some problems and ... the game is very likely the best atmospheric survivalist action since STALKER SoC.

Lets first address negatives:
- PERFORMANCE issues reported in Russian and EU versions are still present in the download version of the US/Worldwide version. They creep up somewhere around the middle of the game where you can suddenly experience drastic frame rates drops. Some of those drops occur in very critical times where your survival depends on the ability to respond timely and accurately. Hopefully, this will be addressed by a patch promissed to be released on April 20. In fact, this is the only, although very important, factual negative about this game ... and the rest is more or less subjective.
- VERY high end system required to experience the game as the developer (Action Forms) intended it to be experienced (some of this may be addressed with the patch tho)
- MOVEMENT controls and game mechanics are somewhat outdated and feel stiff. No take cover system, no leaning has been implemented. However, this may have been done on purpose. The movement speed (walk) is just a notch slower than it should be even when the given extreme environmental conditions are considered.
- WEAPONS zoom (ironsights zooming) in the aim mode is a way too strong. This is the only negatively surprising developer's decision that somewhat distracts from the extreme realism of firearms in this game.

On the positive side:
- THE game is made for PC (not a porting job)
- DELIBERATE slow-paced atmospheric survivalist action that immerses you into your own sense of isolation, fear and desperation amidst deadly environmental conditions and hostile mutated creatures
- EXCELLENT weapons realism (design, firing, loading, reaction time, recoil) that only further contributes to the sense of overwhelming odds stacked against you and creeping thoughts that you'll never make it through. While some peeps will hate this, I personally like that there is no reticule in the hip mode of shooting.
- STRONG story-driven gameplay, that only gradually reveals itself and culminating at the very end. During the game you'll sometimes wonder whether there is a point to all this ... but if you survive you'll be rewarded at the end. One of the best, thought-provoking endings.
- SOME very well executed original ideas contributing to the sense of methodical planning on the developer's part and not adding pieces as an afterthought. While at times things may appear repetitive, carefully looking around will make you realize that each level and each space while similar to other confined spaces on the ship is different and offers a different challenge.

Overall, this a wonderful game that is hard to classify in any particular category. It is played in the first person, but it's not a typical shooter. Horror is present, but it's not a typical horror game either. Keep your mind open without the need to categorize this game and you'll have a good time. Yet, it must be said that this game is not for everybody -- if you are looking for a fast-paced action shooter ... then stay away from this game. This game is just the opposite -- deliberately slow pace ... giving you time to realize how desperate, almost hopeless, your situation is. The survival fights are realistic given that the character you are playing is a person without highly specialized combat skills (as is usually the case in other FPS games) moving in a deeply frozen environment trying to figure out what happened and what's going on while barely staying alive. Audio is top notch. Graphics are on par with the best with some specialized outputs for ice and water. For no apparent reason AtmosFear 2.0 game engine reminded me on Black Element's Enforce2 engine where the interiors are rendered superbly while the outdoors have significant room for improvement. If the upcoming fixes/patch resolve the performance issues this will be one game that could easily range anywhere between 8.5 and 10/10 depending on the user's preferences.

Overall score: 8.2/10.

I'm guessing it is a Horror type FPS game but I am a sucker for anything "FPS" so I'll download the demo and take ir for a spin around good ole Russia :D

Yep it's Sci-Fi Horror. I love it, you guys may hate it who knows, I'm merely sharing what I know about the Game.

It's a h00t to play, but it needs a Power PC to run correctly.

Like I said it also needs a Patch, the Full version, but at the same time I can play it fine, it just has a Small bug, whereas the FPS drops a WEE bit. for no apparent reason in a select few areas. Not a BIG ussue, but needs to be fixed none the less'

It's rated no,2 Most Popular PC game out today, by GameSpot, btw....

I see you have a Reclusa Razer KB, I do as well. Love the KB, but they are BIG.

Wondering if you know a Simple way to Disable the Media Key, without using the

Driver GUI, etc. I never install Drivers for Mice or Keyboards, the Default Drivers from

MS (HID Drivers) work fine for me. Plus you won't have that CRAP wanting to load at

start up.



I hope you like the Game, you may want to play it without Motion Blur, I never use it

myself, also DO NOT use EAX, use Hardware Sound. No EAX, EAX will slow it down

too.

Try different GFX Congifs too, the new 185.81 NV Drivers are Best with the New

PhysiX Driver (nv) 9.09.048 find it @ Guru3d.com (both).

Then again you might run ATI in which case this is info is worthless.

ATI cards have Issues with the game, more so than an NV card. The GTX 200 Series

are Best, the game is optimized for NV cards. No I'm not saying ATI are bad cards by

any means, they make great cards as well.

Anyhow Enjoy!! Tweak until it runs smooth and bare in mind a patch is coming soon.

well looking at my cpu usage ingame it seems its only utilising 1 core , seems a bit odd/stupid for a modern game , my rig cant handle the physX i only have one card so i switched that off , god only knows what level it sets the anisotropic filtering at when enabled cos i drop nearly 20fps!! I expect thats easy to tweak , seems in desperate need of some mouse smoothing gameplay seems a bit clunky , is this a console port by any chance?

BlueMonster Yes its bloody huge isnt it ha ha , i dont use the software anymore either , i did but i didnt have it running at startup just ran it for games but as i play only FPS ive no need for so many configurable keys , i bought it because of good reviews , i had no need for a display on my keyboard so that took the logitech out of the question , this was my next choice and im really pleased with it.....and its all blue

oh and i dont think there is a way to disable the media keys without the software , not that i can figure anyway , maybe worth a google , but you'll probably just end up with a load of links to third party apps so you might as well just bite the bullet and run the reclusa package

this game looks good not brilliant just good (bioshock looked better and ran well.eventually) but no matter what i set the graphics too my fps stays the same whether i restart the whole game or not , the only thing that really made a differance was turning off EAX and aniosotropic filtering , but i turned the filtering back on and now it looks better and my fps is the same??

Im looking at 30-40fps with everything on high (20-25fps out in the snow) eax off and hardware physX off , but the game just feels clunky and the mouse is jittery as hell , enabling motion blur and camera blur masks the jittery mouse but i cant stand this effect i always turn it off

its a shame , I wonder if a patch will sort anything , i dont want to buy it yet as it seems like a dodgy console port and as for only utilising 1 cpu core! whats that all about? Its Stalker all over again..........

I am not liking the screenies I see here and I am having some issues with my puter at the moment so I may not play with it tonight but I'll see.

As I said I have the full Version. The Demo is not as good my any means.

Which is not to say the final release is perfect, it is not.

The game was not optimozed correctly and with the new patch, it will utilize

C2D's etc. Other slow down Issues, shuddering and what not.

You DO NOT need to enable AA or AF, it will look fine without them,

You do not need Motion Blur either.



If you run the game at like 1280X1024 it will RUN great, or try 1600X . I would not

push it any further, until the patch is out!!

In the NV control Panel set it for NV Global Setting for best performance, period.

Use the drivers I mentioned, 185.81 and the Newest PhysX driver I linked above.

If you guys try what I am telling you, it is my belief you will have nuch better Luck

with the Game.

I get fro 30-60 FPS steady. End of Story. :D

Love the Game, the Opatch will make it much Better, just have some Patience,

please. Best of LUCK, the Game ROX!! You just have to tweak the Display settings

etc.

I still don't use the Software for my Reclusa, and I get by fine, I'm so used to this Keyboard, whoa!! It's a VERY HIGH QUALITY board, the Keys are itched not Painetd, and you know about the Blue Back lighting, looks Bitchen!! The Gloss Blas=ck Finih is Gorgous as well, all in all I love my Reclusa, I have a Wolfking KB as well, and a Box of others, LOL!!

Ic the Company that id Ctyostasis is small, and from Russia, they workk like crazy to make a good game. You just gotta stick with it and tweak it, I have it running Excellent!!

The Game is Killer I think, the fact that you don't RUN all over is realistic, as your on a Frozen Ship afterall. DX10 looks awesome in the Game, I just Love it, I'm on Chapter 9 at the end of it actually....:D

i know what your saying mate , it is a good game but the demo is such a dog , i dont know if im ready for another Stalker yet , Stalker is one of my all time favourite games but it was just like this on its release , months and months waiting for patches and hoping they fixed things , i loved the game so much i stuck with it but i dont know if i have the patience anymore lol luckily the modding community got hold of Stalker and did a really good job.

It wouldnt be so bad if altering the ingame textures had any effect in the demo but they dont , everything on high maxed i was getting 35fps , turned everything to low restarted the game and it all looked low but 35fps again. How do they expect us to know how the games gonna run when the demo is restricted and buggy :sa:

I was looking at the forums last night one of the moderators , im assuming one of the devs said the game is aimed at high end machines gtx280/290 will run the game best..........so their aiming it at probably 2% of the pc gaming market!!??

its cheap and ill probably end up buying it , i do like the idea but i might just put it straight in storage and wait a few months till my upgrade , or untill they patch it and sort it out

heres hoping im getting bored of COD5 now

I have Stalker, aswell, did not get Clear Sky though. Your right they (GSC) another Russian DEV team did Stalker. It was way bugggy!! However it also has a HUGE MOD Community here in the States!! File Front or File Shack can't remember has many fixes for the game. When GSC finally Patched it to v 1.4 or whatever, they actually made it worse. IMO. But if you use the faikies Mod 2.1 with Stalker, it totally ROX, you can even get Mods for Stalker that allow you to drive around the Game World.

Anyhow back to COD5, finish the game, and play Nazi Zombies, wow what a treat!!

Cryostasis, is simular, it's like AA and AF really don't do anything. With Cryo you can just set everything on as High as you can, and go. there is only a couple areas at the moment that I had any lag in. Period. The Game is OLD School just like me, LOL!!

It has Quick Save/Load, loads in a Heartbeat. Has 18, long Chapters, and is a Single Player only game. In short it's rare!! Cryo is linier but not to much, hard to explain.

The game has some of the Best NEW ideas I've seen, the Echo thing is way cool, you'll come across a Daead Guy, and touch him, then it goes into the Flashback, in Brillent colr, of how the guy Died, you the go back to their and Save him to move on, way Cool!! I play all my games in the Pitch Black, with my Cambridge Sound Works 5.1 Speakers cranked, what a TRIP!! I don't use LCD, I use a 900 dollar CRT, (back when it was first sold) it's a 21" Trinitron, Black 2500XREZ Capable Monitor with a Crystal Clear Image, Bright and Clean. Doctors use CRT monitors to this day, for Micro Surgery. an LCD is just to blurry. Yes I'm used them both, nothing I've ever seen holds a Candle to my Trinitron 21" CRT. I can run my refresh rate up to 125Hz too!! Absolutely Zero Response Time delay, ZIP. Ir also can run a ton of different REZ settings. You'd have to see it to believe it.

Anyhow, a Patch is coming for Cryostasis, but it runs fine for me without one, I spent hours tweaking the game until it's perfect. Aso I I have mentioned, prior, it has no AIMING recticle, at all!!A very Clean Simple HUD all you get is a Body Temp Gage and Adrenalin meter, that's it, you have to be Warm to Fight!! So what I do is after I get good and Toasty by using the many Heat Sources in the Game World, I do a Quick save. They go,, I QS a lot. You can also do Solid save, which I suggest one at the begining of each Chapter, so you can go back and replay your Favorites.

Gaming Wise though FO3 is the BEST game out bar none. I have it as well, it is a masterpiece, it's kinda like Stalker, your in the Wastelands, after a Nuculer Fallout.

But FO3 has been patched well, and right away, get it on Steam and it plays GREAT!! Steam Patches all your games for you, and only uses the BEST patches.

I'm also playing FEAR2, another awesome game, then there's TRU, Tomb Raider UnderWorld, Love that game!! I hav 500 GIGS of HDD space so I play like 5 or 6 games at once, I even play Combat Arms!! The most Hacked MP game ever!! But it's an excellent MP game, if we could somehow get rid of all the Snot Nosed Cheaters, it would be the Best MP game out. As is, it's still a lot of FUN!!

Yeah, try and run this game with a 256 Meg Vid card, GOOD LUCK!!

A great Card that I'm looking at is the EvGa GTX 275 FTW Edition, it has a stock core clock of 713!! Ever bit as fast as a GTX 285 for 100 bucks Less!!

lol mate ive only played 5 minutes of the COD5 single player i prefer the online side , i might find someone with a savegame file near the end haha

One of the things i love in cryo demo is that save a dead guy thing its a nice touch

im already giving the 275 serious consideration , im just planning on upgrading my gpu and psu i think the rest will be fine for now

Great Price, for a Wonderful Russian game. As with many 1c Games, it has Welders in it.There are a lot of Welders in Russia, and man the Crew of the North Wind is Really cool, anyhow, Steam says it's not compatable with XP64bit or Vista 64bit, that's odd as it runs fine on my PC with Vista HP 64bit, Vista HP 64 bit has 32 bit as well, so that makes Zero sense.

They also say you need a Dual Core CPU, not true either. Also they say a 256meg Vid cards all you need

that's a Flat out Lie!! :P To run this game propery I'd say as I mentioned before, a 3Ghz Dual Core or Single Core CPU, a Vid card with at least 512 memory!! Xp or Vista, doesn't matter, Vista for DX10.

NV cards are best if you use the PhysX, some don't and say you don't need too, I do. ATI cards will run it fine with PhsyX Disabled. So either ATI or NV will work great, NV IMO, best. Not cuz I'm a Fanboy, but it's build around the NV PhysX engine. I imagine NV helped finance this Game, and my hats off to them for doing soas 1c is not a BIG DEV team or Company period, they are poor when Compared to UbiSoft and so on. Though Russian PC games are built with LOVE, you can tell. Also this game has some really cool never done before features.

It's very pretty in the GFX department, some say it looks outdated, no, that's jsut the Russian Dev team, and how they roll.

I am addicted to this game and adore it, some will cry, B1tch and Moan, a lot I'm sure, they already are. There is a Patch scheduled for release shortly as it lags about half way into the game in some areas, BIG Deal!! They Cry cuz the Patch is not out yet, myself would much rather wait for a Great Patch than one they just through together. You can Bet the Steam version will run Great!! The Steam Version of FO3 is AWESOME!! So is Dark Sector, what a killer SP game, Cyro is also

SP only!! I love that action. The story is one of the best I've seen in any game ever. Yep it has a REAL story. Great Cut scenes, Flashbacks, far out Colors, beautiful Water FX and ICE FX!! In my Book it's a 9 game or 90%. As it is so cool. the sound FX are a 10!!

Plus it HAS QUICK SAVE Dammit, PC games should all have Quick save no exception period!!



The Snow FX, the Best ever!! Well Crysis too!! So there you have it. You'll love this game IF, you have an open mind.

No it's not a RUN and GUN game, you run as you would in real life, you walk as you would in Real life. So if your looking for a game where you don't have to think and RUN 100 MPH all the time, don't get Cyrostasis, but if your into a GREAT game made by a Great...
