I think , that if you have more than 4 GB of RAM you should use x64 vista since vista 32 bits is limited to 3 GB ram. But, x64 has some compatibilty problems
( i have found none since i installed it ).
You may find 64x slightly better.
It has to do with the way maths are worked out in 64bit over 32bit.
It has more addressing of memory. More memory means more can run without the HD being used a page file.
I was told by one of the staff at Microdirect Warehouse, that I was making a big mistake on buying x64 version of Vista.
But I said to him, It's the future mate... everyone will need It one day. So why buy a 32bit one now, an then buy a 64bit for the future. May as well buy It now
Ok, being a Microsoft CSR, means i obviously hear alot of critisicm about Windows Vista both x86 and x64. The no.1 issue would be 'compatibility issues'. Another common enquiry i get would be vista is slow and sluggish. I often advise customer to move over to the x64 architecture as it increases overall hardware significantly. Unfortunately those who are using windows vista would rather downgrade to xp pro.
Why? Because they listen to all the negative feedback. Those who dont like it, dont understand it.
Wether you upgrade or not. You will be forced. If you want the maximum out of your computer hardware and software. With a x64 bit architecture developers/distributers will be making software to best fit the average consumers needs. Obviously the consumers would like to keep ontop of everything (being updated/Latest software). Developers have started developing games to use maximum potential of quad cores and x64 platform.
I was unaware of the difference between 32/64-bit os so i thought i would buy a new pc and see for myself (i needed a pc anyways)..
The noticeable differences from 32/64-bit:
Faster overall processing speed
Double my RAM :D (ult x64 allows 8GB ram max) < Although i never seen lag when running vista ult x86 @ 1920x1080.
Only known compatibility issue (Fallout 3 during installation)
My personal Suggestion:
Upgrade to x64
Its not so much the operating system, but the hardware itself. Put some dollars into ur machine and you'll see your well worth money spent
