Hey all,
I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00... So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is) ... So in conslusion, HELP!! Hehe

To what? XP? No way, Vista Ultimate is.. Well the name says it all, it's Ultimate! For the sake of playing RA2 it doesn't sum up going backwards. There has to be a way to do it. I am not %100 about how IPX works, but there has to be an emulator, meaning both machines communicate via TCP/IP, then translate to IPX. Surely it can't be too hard? Says me, the guy asking for help! :P

I never got Yuri's revenge working either from the Decade tribute DVD U bought....

OK, well I did a bit more searching around, I found Kali, I loaded it then it said I have to pay? BAH! I think it's a rip-off of GameSpy, so I loaded GameSpy, Great, both PC's could see the lobby and I created a game. ... LAUNCH ... Then once the games are started, they just open up to the Main Menu of the game. I looked at the listed IPX network adapter whilst in the game then, it looked like it ignored all the other IPX addresses but GameSpy's software driven adapter, shows 0's and F's, "00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff" - If it's any help to people looking for the answers! :p

Just a follow up, I got this to work eventually, I needed a Winsock dll file, put it into the RA2 folder and it worked, dunno how or why!

i'm havin the same problem with the ipx protocol... tried all the suggestions above and still not work... am i doin somethin wrong or is der any other sugg ?:zip:

Thanks ROME - you probably got the "wsock32.dll" from Understorm.

It's description says it is a TS/RA2 UDP Patch.

You download and move the .dll file to the RA2 folder, on my XP machine:

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Red Alert(tm) II\RA2\wsock32.dll" (Do NOT put this in the sys32 folder).

During startup, the first time, I had to hit the "windows key" a couple times to go out to my desktop and tell the firewall to "unblock" (I run Win XP firewall, and AVG antivirus)

The above same file was copied to several machines, where RA2 was installed and a unique RA2 Serial Number specified, and it worked fine on Win Xp home and pro, and all Vista 32 and 64.

This Dll tells RA2 to use UDP instead of IPX.

Also, Internal Network Number (in IPX settings) is the reason the both PCs will lag, I set from 00000000 to 001 for 1st PC and 002 for 2nd ..., and all works
