My Toshiba Satelite A505-S6865 crashed with a lost HDD. It was 500GB. I had a dual-boot of Vista and Kubuntu 14.04. I replaced the HDD with a TB drive and installed Vista from my Recovery Disk. I was unable to connect to the internet via WiFi and checked the Device Manager to find both WiFi and NIC had the yellow !.
I did not receive any CD's or DVD's with my Laptop, so I do not have any drivers to install and without Internet connection, I am unable to download and install drivers.
I have attempted to locate, download and install drivers to USB on my Desktop PC, however 3 of the drivers only provide the 'Run' option, and because I am not downloading to the laptop due to not having connection to the Internet, I am stuck and not sure what to do.
I am old, no longer able to drive, and on a very low fixed income, so it is very difficult for me to afford hiring professionals to solve my problems; I would like help here, if possible with ideas how I can fix my problems myself.
When I installed the Linux OS to my computer, the latest drivers for all hardware were done automatically, so I am posting from the Kubuntu OS right now. For economic reasons, I use the Linux OS mostly, but I really like having Vista too as a backup, and it came with the computer. Occasionally I have a problem with the Linux OS and Windows Vista saves me.
I was able to download and install the WiFi drivers to a USB Thumb Drive but still haven't been able to make a connection, and the Device Manager still shows a problem with WiFi.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I do not have any command line experience in Vista, so if a console is required, please be explicit.
