Flash Drive Won't Format?

I just bought a brand new SanDisk 16GB Cruzer Glide USB Flash Drive. When I plugged it in, it loaded the drivers. When I clicked on it to use it, a warning came up that it needed to be formatted. I clicked Format Disk.

The defaut fields were: Capacity: 64.0MB - File System: FAT - Allocation Size: 1024 bytes.

I click Start, the green bar goes almost all the way across, then stops and a warning box comes up that says: Windows was unable to complete the format.

I cannot put anything on it without formatting it. Seems like nothing can be easy anymore.

Is there a solution that I can do or should I take it back to the store (faulty?) and try another?

P.S. - Keep suggestions simple please. Not that computer savy.

Right click your device and select Properties. Go to the Tools tab and select Error-Checking, Check Now. Check Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors as well, won't hurt. See if that worked.

Under USB Mass Storage Device Properties, there is no Tools option. In the General tab, it says" Device is working properly" but it is not.?

If you have another USB, use it for testing, to be sure the problem one is not bad.

1.Type in Computer Management in the start menu
2.Double click on Storage
3.Double click on Disk Management

Use that to format your flash drive, see if it worked.

Ok, I tried that XGenius and this came up:

Local Disk Manager: The format did not complete successfully.

Richc, I have 2 others and both work fine.

It would be my guess, that you should bring back the USB and ask for one that works.

Yeah, asking for a new one is a good idea. Much simpler! Hope you still have the receipt.

Ok, that's what I'm going to do. I had to dig it out of the garbage, but I have the receipt. I'll try another one and let you know. May be a couple of days though. Thanks for the help, guys.
