Corrupt file check chkdsk

I get an alert about a corrupt file so i went to my hard drive and clicked on the error- checking to start the scan but it says windows can't the disk while its in use, so i clicked the schedule disk check button and restarted my computer and I still get the error. I dont even know if my computer even did a check.
