I am in Region 1. Previously, I have often used VLC Media Player to play Region 2 DVDs without any problem. However, yesterday I tried to play one and for some reason it was giving me trouble. So, I downloaded the program AnyDVD to convert my DVD drive to region free. This allowed me to play the DVD in question. But now, whenever I insert a DVD in the drive (have only tried Region 1 so far), my machine fails to recognize it. I have read about how Vista can sometimes refuse to play a DVD if it recognizes a region-free drive. Any suggestions to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!
edit: Problem solved after restarting computer just now. I had tried restarting it previously and it did not help, but for some reason it is working now! Sorry to be a bother with this thread.
edit 2: OK, the problem doesn't seem to be totally solved. The drive is recognizing DVDs again, but some DVDs (but not all) still do not work with any of my video players (VLC, Windows Media Player, HP MediaSmart DVD). The audio and video is choppy and lags every few seconds, and sometimes freezes up completely. I tried the problem DVD on a regular DVD player and it worked fine.
