USB Keyboard not function

OS: Vista Home sp2 x32
Keyboard: It's some USB hello kitty keyboard, on the package, it listed as compatable with vista.

Problem: I plugged the keyboard in on my vista, windows automatically search for drivers. It popped up saying it's ready to use, but I tried typing on the keyboard, nothing happen. Tried pressing the cap key, no light either.

I tried plugging in another usb port, does the same thing. (usb port is not defective)
I tried plugging the keyboard to my xp laptop, everything installs well and keyboard works. (the keyboard is not defective)

I tried to update the usb driver under device manager. although it prompt to say the drivers are updated, but the keyboard still not working.

In device manager, try removing it, aka uninstall it, and then let windows try to refind it, click the scan for new hardware icon.

When it installs does it make an entry in C:\Program Files?
If it does try right clicking on the .exe , go to properties run in compatibility mode.
Set it to XP in the dropdown box.

    Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset. Only ever used a laptop. Also use USB Freeview TV Card Lenovo Docking Station External Speakers Other bits a pieces as needed

Not that I known of.
This USB keyboard doesn't have a cd software, I suspect it installed like plugging a genuine USB hardware

Try plugging it into the back of the computer using a usb adaptor if you have the PS/2 type connector present on your motherboard.
If this type of connector is not on your motherboard reset the computer with the keyboard connected, as the computer run it post test see if you can access the bios using it. You may have to turn on legacy bios control if it will not work.
