ATI Catalyst Control Center hanging

Hi,
I am having lots of problems with this
ati
driver. It keeps hanging and the computer never shuts off. I was wondering if I really need it. I am not a game player, so could I just delete it? To tell you the truth I don't remember installing it at all... so I don't have a clue how it got here.... I would appreciate any suggestions. Also, if it is
ok
to
uninstall
, what is the best way to do it? from the
uninstall
programs? will all the components be deleted, or do I have to do something else? thank you very much.

Catalyst Control Center affects more than just games, but you do not need CCC installed. You can just use the display driver.

Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM

* Select Display Driver Only

To uninstall CCC (and the video driver) go to add/remove programs and uninstall "ATI Catalyst Install manger".

Once removed (it may require a reboot) simply install the display drivers only.

i dislike ccc strongly - for the last few years, i've been using ati tray tools, a very useful freeware tweaking utility for ati cards.

it does a lot , including under/overclocking, fan control, temp monitoring, custom game shortcuts...and is regularly updated to allow support for new cards.

the software has appeared to be in a permanently developed beta for the last few years, and has always been stable and has worked fine for me, in whatever operating system i've tried it on, both 32 or 64 bit.

Thanks,
I think it appeared after I called Dell with an overheating problem. The tech, since I could not understand what she was saying (not-so-good English) took over the computer and...probably activated or downloaded this drive. Now, if I can use the fan control part or other useful parts that would be good. As I understand correctly, there are instructions that I could follow and that activating some parts and not others, the hanging problem would disappear. Also you seem to believe that the beta one is more stable than the other (which one? do you have a number that I can ck to see which one I have? the tech got into my computer about 3 weeks ago). I appreciate your time and concern. thanks
