Hello All,
Can somebody make sense of what the heck is happening here. I just called a local computer service company - the said its missing a driver so thats why I'm posting in this forum. They also said 3 days and $70 - thats the second reason. Thats like 10 or 15 pizza's
I have a new used machine - quad core hp, vista premium, no hard drives.
I bought a System Recovery Disc Kit from HP and I took one of my 320M Sata drives out from other HP that had two 320 drives.
I installed the drive, keyboard, mouse, monitor and power; hit <F10>, got to the BIOS, set the HD on sata 1 and the CD on sata 3 (I'll add a second disc later on sata2), and set the boot priority - CD 1st, hdd 2nd.
It powers up and I can see the CD blinking but then it hangs. It seems that it doesn't or can't read the CD.
I was able to read the CD with my other older system so I assume the newer machines CD should be able to read it. Maybe the CD is broken??? If it is just misssing a driver, I guess I can locate a driver but then, how do I load it? Do I have to burn it onto a CD and then insert that first?
Any ideas. There are no error codes. It does get to a blue HP Startup screen with <F11 Recovery> tab on the bottom. But, when I hit <F11> there is no effect. The keyboard seemed to be working when I was in the bios. The <esc> key worked and the <f10> ke worked. So, I assume the <f11> key is working.
I was just looking at vlite and nlite vLite - Windows Vista configuration tool which is a tool which can build a custom boot disc where you can load (missing) drivers.
Thanks
Tim
