TPCIP.SYS and NETIO.SYS for Vista x64 Ultimate

My next door neighbor blew up his Vista install by trying to run a patch for TCP/IP connections. I'm taking a look at it and he's getting driver sig errors, but when I bypass them he gets a blue screen dump from NETIO.SYS.

He doesn't have a restore cd (preinstall on a laptop, and we're in the Caribbean at school) - is there any place I can download the current versions of these? I can always replace them using an Ubuntu livecd.

Responses greatly appreciated, he's got a paper due tomorrow.

Hi Aph33x,

Your talking about that fake Vista-tcpip-sys-connection-limit-patch?

Well that patch is nothing but lies from people with no idea about networking :sarc:

You can use System Restore to restore windows back before he applyed this patch ;)

This tutorial will help http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

WHAT????....Fake? They LIED???

LOL...yes they did, and dmex is 100% correct!!
You do not need these "patches" for your torrent d'loads, this is a complete flasehood invented by people who do not fully understand what this Half Open Connection limit really does. It does not affect your d'laod speeds so hopefully you can use System Restore from Safe Mode to get your install working again. Or if you can use the Rcovery Console (you need to know DOS commands), you may have been lucky to get a patch that actually backs up the original tcpip.sys file to a tcpip.bak, and restore the original file in the patched ones place.

Hope you learned something here...and don't fall for those idiots who say that the tcp/ip limit slows your d'load speeds as they know not what they say (or do obviously)(or make patches either for that matter...)

I think you never used p2p programs..., when you are downloading things, with for example limewire, ares, torrents, you notice that you cant even surf the web.
So, dont talk about things you dont know.
I used the TCP patch before formating the pc, with a soft that selected the option "Disable Driver Enforcement etc." in boot options, but know the patch gives a blue screen, dunno why.

heh, It bsod because the patch is a nothing but lies :sarc:

Soylomass..Shao128 is right

I use Shareaza, UTorrent, Limewire, Azureus (even though some use the same networks) and others depending on my needs...The Half-Open connection limit is aimed at developers not end-users of these applications like yourself...These clients and others (Utorrent being an expception) dont need extra configuration because they have been updated for the half-open limit changes (only utorrent actually uses half-open connections and even then its one or two connections used for compatibility with older clients, it uses a setting of max_Halfopen 8 instead of 4 so you need to adjust that manually under advanced config yourself)

If you cant browse the internet while using these applications then you either configured the app wrong or your router/modem cant handle the amount of connections p2p applications create...

This limit has been around 4 or 5 years now and developers have adjusted their applications accordingly, I also haven't seen a single kb drop in the speed of my downloads else I would be using the patch...Some people just misunderstand the Microsoft KB article and decided they should blame that limit for their slow downloads or other problems ;)

BTW Its also not a good idea to patch the core of windows networking (like that patch does) because you never know what security problems or code they might place there ;)

Well, i am saying my experience, i couldnt surf while i used p2p, and after i patched the tcpip driver, i could use ares, firefox, and counter strike source at the same time xD (obviously depending of the download and upload speed i was using in ares).

Why did he patch fix my problem if it was a lie??, thats one of the secrets of life we'll never find out... (?)

Tell me if my english sucks, i dont think its so bad but your native language is english so you know xD

Firefox and Counter-Strike dont even use half-open connections, they use HTTP and UDP connections :sarc:

Its like I said, your p2p client is either configured wrong or your router/modem just cant handle the amount of connections your p2p client creates and causes the others connections to timeout and since you said Firefox and Counter-strike didn't work until you used that patch then just says its your router/modem that cant handle the amount of connections your p2p client uses ;)

Shao posted a link with more info about the patch here: P2P Forums • View topic - TCP/IP.sys Half-open connection limit guide. If you read the entire post from a p2p developer himself, then you will understand ;)

BTW, Your English is ok ;)
