Hello group, Don in Seattle here.
Here's the full story. I have a new W Vista Home Premium 64bit system. I have a decent color laser printer, a Samsung CLP-300. From the Samsung site, I download their Vista 64bit driver.
I try to install the driver and am given the error message "driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocked nt4.0 drivers"
I found, on a different board (no offense!) the following:
So I've got a printer that has a driver that Vista cannot recognize/load/install.
Am I stuck with no printer?
Do I have to just get another printer that (hopefully) has a correct driver? Do I need to upgrade to Vista Pro or Ultimate or something higher?

"Here is the answer: You would want to unblock this.
To block the installation of kernel-mode printer drivers
Open Group Policy.
Under Local Computer Policy, double-click Computer Configuration.
Double-click Administrative Templates, and then double-click Printers.
Right-click Disallow installation of printers using kernel mode drivers, and then click Properties.
On the Setting tab, click Enabled, and then click OK. "
I further discover that in order to do this change, to enable nt 4.0 drivers, you must have Group Policy edit. Vista Home Premium 64bit does NOT have this capability. I go to my Run and enter GPEDIT... no such thing on my computer. To block the installation of kernel-mode printer drivers
