Solved Cpu is getting eaten by svchost.exe

This has got to be the one of the most frustrating thing I have ever tried to diagnose in my life.

Turn the computer on and it does its thing for a while and about 5 minutes into it the CPU acts normally and then jumps to 100% SOLID forever until I turn the bloody thing off.

Did a full scan- No results
Updated windows- Except the 3 optional updates that just don't do anything and just sit at 0%.(?????)
Deleted some excess programmage- Nothing
Scanned with rKill- did a couple things
Scanned with TDSKiller- Nothing
Scanned ADCleaner- Did a good bit

Still nothing

Scanned with ComboFix and DID ANOTHER FULL SCAN IN SAFE MODE AND IT FOUND 25 RISKS AND REMOVED THEM.

STILL NO SUCCESS.

Looked up a few videos and downloaded Service Explorer to see what was going on in the Process and I found ONE thread that's acting crazy but I can't access it or debug it or even figure out what the thread is. It just has a PID number and I don't know anything about that stuff.

Someone said it might have to do with updates and that I would have to do it manually so I downloaded the windows Service pack 2 for vista and nothing happened cause apparently I already had it.

What.......is....going on........

Welcome Captain Energy. If Windows Update is set to check for updates automatically, then I suspect that wuauserv is consuming your CPU. If you click "view update history," what was the last update installed? More specifically, was security update KB3145739 successfully installed last month? See http://www.vistax64.com/windows-updates/303992-windows-update-just-seems-hang-while-checking-13.html Do not jump to the conclusion that you need to reinstall Vista or run every conceivable security product!

well I did some reading and I figured out that it was windows update that was doing it. I disabled it and it works fine but apparently I need to manually update windows now and then turn it back on and restart my computer? The thing is I don't know how to check which updates I need WITHOUT turning on Windows Update cause as soon as I do that I'm right back where I started. I pretty sure the only updates left though are optional ones.

Frankly, your post doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. You say your Windows is up-to-date except for a few optional updates, and indeed there were two optional updates in April (KB3138378 and KB3139921) - but you would only know that if you had successfully checked for updates before. Checking for updates only requires alarming CPU usage (I'm guessing you have a single-core processor) when there are actually a number of updates available; but oddly enough, your first post was a couple of hours before Microsoft released Windows updates for May (this was Patch Tuesday you know).

BTW I have successfully installed the May updates, which required less than 3 hours in my case.

Windows vista won't be supported for much longer so I don't really care anymore, I'm just going to disable Windows Update for now and get my friend to upgrade it to windows 7 or something. I'm going to assume that windows update just got messed up somehow. Probably because Vista blows.
