my pc keeps crashing then restarting

my pc keeps crashing then restarting and when i check event viewer it says i8042prt failed to load driver. but i have tried to update my drivers but they are all up to date. can somebody help me i am not to good with pc but i can follow instructions.

This describes what it is- i8042prt.sys Windows process - What is it?. One of the things it suggests is to run a check for malware. I suggest doing that with the free malwarebytes.

Don't worry that the referenced link only mentions Win 7/8. It also applies to Vista.

i am running free malwarebytes and it has found 52 objects. so i have removed them all
i will post another message if my pc crashes again due to the same problem

yes thanks but it can take up to 48 hours between crashes so i will let you know in 2 days.
you have been a life saver giving me quick and easy info to follow. it has been driving me crazy for weeks

Try this (you might want to save your registry first using the Export option)-

Go to Start > Run and put regedit.exe and click Ok
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters
Add a new REG_DWORD "Headless " and set the value to 1 (you might have to use 0x00000001 (1))

i have tried this already and it did not stop the crashing

I guess you can try running malwarebytes again.

I don't know what kind of mouse and keyboard you have but you might try reinstalling the drivers.

Or, I suppose you could shut down and restart with the devices disconnected if you're using USB and then shutdown and restart with them connected.

My Windows vista is getting restarted on its own .
It shows Windows Explorer has stopped working
Windows Explorer is restarting.
Its on loop .

Desktop comes and disappears.

Working on safe mode as of now.

Please help

Hello I've been having BSOD problems since last summer and dont know who to fix them. Last summer i couldnt even log in without going in safe mode so someone on here recommended a clean boot which alleviated the problem about being unable to log in but it has been a recurring issue since then and I don't know why. Sometimes I get the iastor.sys message and other times I get the irql not less or equal to so im not sure what the problem is. I also get the 0x000000076 message at times as well. I am attaching the files from last summers computer state and the current state of my computer. It might also be related to why i cant install a security update from windows update if anyone can help me on that too.
