Im trying to help a coworker out, his Toshiba stopped booting, wouldn't even get to the opening windows icon. I have Windows 7 recovery disk so when I asked him what OS he had he said Windows 7, so I figured easy fix.
So I make a repair disk from my Windows 7 notebook, put it in his im able to boot and finally get to the system repair box. I choose System repair, 15 hours later it asks me to restart. So I restart and nothing is fixed. So I restart, F8 and get to the safe mode options screen, I have chosen each option and nothing ever happens. Screen stays black. So I restart once again and this time I try a system recovery from HDD. nothing disk error code. I try my recovery disk and nothing.
So I try something diff, I read on pc tech (I think) that ppl have been able to fix issues using Ubunto, so I download run it off a disk not fully installing it. Wont let me fix anything or check disk. So I tell my buddy I can get it to work by just installing Ubunto as the OS. He agrees. as I go to install Ubunto, it states I currently have Vista installed and if I am sure I want to replace it or partition it.
So his Toshiba has Vista NOT Win7. I tried downloading a safe copy of Vista sp2 iso but cant get that to burn to a dvd. I keep getting 80004005 error. I tried nero, Cyberlink Power DVD, ISO recorder, windows 7 usb/dvd download tool. NONE will burn the ISO. So I find another copy of Vista, but its in the WIM and EXE files and I cant figure out how to convert into an ISO file. I tried cdimage.exe but the vista file is too large to fit in my D: ROOT Drive.
ANY IDEAS? Really need help, I bit off more than I can chew and I really want to help this guy out, he has fallin on hard times and his daughter is the one that uses the notebook for school work.
