dont slow down

A couple months ago I noticed an update for SP2 on my laptop. It's a Toshiba running Vista Home Premium 32bit. I started the update and went to bed. Then next morning it was stuck on a black screen. After some research and trying a few reboots this is where I'm at.
When it boots I get the green loading bar, then a black screen with a bunch of files flashing across the top line of the screen, then it stops on this: ! ! 0xc0000034 ! ! 148/70296 (program_files_ffd0cbfc813cc4f1.cdf-ms)
I cannot boot into ANY safe mode or in the last known good configuration. When I try to boot in safe mode it starts loading then hangs on windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys
I have a copy of my Vista CD but not the original. When I boot from the CD I have run the Startup Repair it says it cannot repair it and gives the following problem details:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairV2
Problem Signature 01: ExternalMedia
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6001.1.18000

Problem Signature 09: WrpRepair
Problem Signature 10: 10
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

I cannot do a system restore (from an earlier point) because there are no restore points (I'm pretty sure there are though) I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool and that doesn't work either, reboots and hangs on the same file as before. I can get to the command prompt through the CD and can access my files to save them but I'd like to try to repair the OS. Any ideas at all? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
