Blue Horizontal / Green Vertical lines = BSOD / Blank Screen Bootup.

Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help or advice (I'm currently compiling my zip).

I don't know what the cause of the problem is, but I have some ideas. I will start by explaining the problem, and how it arose.

Playing Minecraft, I mined some dirt and horizontal blue lines / squigglies appeared on my screen. Moments computer went to BSOD, but then rebooted normally. Tried again, and the same problem occurred. I've played Minecraft before; but it could have something to do with the new update.

I recently installed windows recommended updates, the problem had not occurred before this. I also recently installed Daemon Tools Lite. I don't think it's a software conflict...

I got the blue lines, but my computer did not shut its self off. After a few moments I manually powered down. After waiting I attempted to reboot: The screen turned on, but displayed only black. I took out my battery, rams, hd, and unplugged for a while. After replacing, it booted up and the screen worked.

Prompted to initialize windows repair prior to bootup, I accepted. Not long into the diagnostic vertical green/brown lines appear. Computer did not crash... Diagnosis found no problem. Started it up, ran some freeware diagnostic tool, and it crashed halfway through. Boot up = black screen. Took out hd, let it cool down, replaced, pc boots up.

I read that it could be a power supply problem causing this. Is it possible? To me it doesn't make much sense, but the DC adapter did fail to work a coupe of days ago. After a friendly tap it worked fine.

Could it be the windows updates? A virus on my computer? I initially thought it was my graphics card overheating, but after while running the .zip compiler SpeedFan clocked my temperatures at 80* for my cores, 61 GUP, and i'm at 54 for my hd. Don't think it can be that...

This is where you guys come in...

Would it be power supply (I gave my adapter another smack, and now pc seems to work fine...)? A virus? Lack of airflow/short out in my laptop (I had to take it apart to clean it; fan stopped working. It's worked fine for months since I took it apart, though).

A registry scan indicates many errors. Fixing these help or cause more problems? I've never done it before.
Running sfc scans now [picked up nothing, ran 2x], then will update graphics card. Will post results.

Sorry if this thread was jumping the gun on an easy solution... but when it didn't want to start up the first few times, I became quite concerned.

After uninstalling my my nvidia drivers, before re-installing, the blue lines popped up again after the required reboot. This time they didn't cause the computer to crash, so I shut it down. I'm going to wait a while, as this seemed to be a temporary fix for the problem last time, and then install the new driver.

After waiting a boot resulted in the all-too familiar Black Screen (no splash, dos writing, or mouse pointer. But light is emitting from screen). I'm going to shut it down, and leave it off for a few hours (give it proper time to cool off).

Your reports look like it is Nvidia. If you can install new drivers and the pro0blem persisits, I would guess that it might actually be the card (hardware problem) and not the driver. Just a guess mind you. Thats all I have to go on at the moment.

Hey, thanks guys. After trying to boot up numerous times I'm met with the same illuminated black screen. Buttons all glow, etc, and it doesn't beep at me at all, unless I press buttons. As such I have not yet been able to install the new driver.

But it's not going to be an error in the registry, or some sort of virus causing this is it? Also, I was wondering if it might be trying to boot from my virtual drive? You'd think it would still display something...

Also, any idea how I managed to trick it into turning on/displaying last time? If I could just get it up again I could try and repair my registry, or at least install the driver...

I've left it on to process for quite a period of time, but nothing ever comes of it. I took it [half] apart, unplugged the graphics display, cleaned, etc... still the same.

I've left it off for days, and when I attempt to turn it on I'm still greeted with the back-lit black screen, and some form of processing going on in the background. I can't tell if it's actually booting up and not displaying, or if it's just processing other data.
Do I need to purchase a new motherboard?
Any information would be appreciated... I don't want to replace the mobo if it's not the problem.

Connect a VGA monitor to the external port & press Fn F4 (Activalte the external monitor) two or three times.

What do you see now?

Nothing happens when I do this. It's a bit hard to tell if it's just because it won't boot all the way.

I can activate/deactivate the touchpad (light goes orange), but I trying to un 'mute' yields no response (light stays orange).

I can't really see any thing... But it's doing something; when I wait a while and press enter the processing light flashes. I did this again and it rebooted...

But FN+F4 does nothing... Doesn't turn the backlight off the laptop screen, or display to monitor. I connected monitor when pc was off, as well.

I tried it a few more times.

Last time I got five, short, beeps in very quick succession. Like one long beep, broken up into five sections of equal length... If it was Morse Code they would have been dots. Not sure if that's helpful. Afterwards it rebooted.

Make and model of computer? The duration and number of beeps is a diagnosis of the problem. Every computer is different.

Beep codes indicate a hardware problem. Read this carefully, especially the section describing the meaning of the codes

But the 5 short beeps i got indicate successful bios recovery, apparently.
I mean, i'm going to have to buy a new computer. If I could fix this one as well it would be awesome...

The beep thing didn't really help .
