Solved laptop went dark

Hi. so recently my laptops screen went dark i know the computer is still working fine because i can see it when i shine a flashlight at the screen. I also hooked it up to my tv and it showed it fine on the tv screen and actually made the light on the laptop go on somehow too and even stay on for hours by itself after unplugging it from the tv. But eventually it went dark again. So i tried replacing the screen inverter thinking that was it but that didn't solve the issue either. So if anyone has any idea of what else it can be or any information i would appreciate it. thanks.

Thank you but I don't have a BSOD so why do i need to post that.

You do not have a BSOD, you can ignore the prior instructions. Lets see if it is the monitor driver. Go to search by the go button, type device manager. In device manager look for any small yellow warning markers. If none are found, go to the website of the monitor manufacturer and download the most current driver.

This is what i thought which is why i replaced the screen inverter which didn't solve it. Any other solution?

Hello again, i found one free program that will diagnose to a degree. Called Fresh Diagnose from here. Test your monitor, computer monitor, lcd monitor, flat panel monitor, monitor driver, flat screen monitor, concord monitor, kds monitor, envision monitor, nec monitor, samsung monitor, touch screen monitor, used monitor, sony monitor, plasma monitor,
Other programs i saw cost . Sorry, this is all i have. Good luck with this.

I'm betting its the actual light itself.

I've changed an older toshiba florecent one before, it was retty simple, but required soldering.

Find out if you have LED or CF, and i'm betting it's a cheap fix.

Some laptops have a key with which you can switch off the screen (usually works in conjunction with the Fn key). I once fell into that trap and had the hardest time to figure out what the cause of the problem was - and it was so simple.

Thats usually fn F5 or F3 i believe. It'll have a picture of 2 monitors on it.

That's not what the issue, it must be the backlight is burned out or something else

That would make it completely dark.

Yes this is what i suspect it is too. I just bought the one for my model here-http://www.ebay.com/itm/400251339552?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648#ht_1814wt_806

Do you know if it for sure needs soldering, because this one comes with the harness piece too and says no soldering needed. Also is it an easy thing to replace? Any information on how exactly to do it would be appreciated. Thanks.

It szhould be simple if it has a harnness.

My repair wAS on a realy old one, so having to solder wasnt a surprise.

It was quite simple, it was mainly just extreme care to dismantle the screen frame, as it is pretty flimsy. You probably were 3/4s of the way to fixing it when you switched out the inverter.

So basically just take your time and dont force anything

Ok so i replaced the bulb (ccfl) and it works like new so that was it. It was not an easy thing to do at all and took me a long time. Theres alot of tricky and delicate parts you need to be careful with. changing the screen inverter is way easier! Anyway i want to thank everyone for their responses and tips, and good luck.
