Please help - Programs won't install after Service Pack update

Hi

I recently installed the latest Windows Update for Service Pack - the install took quite a while, and I left my laptop plugged into the power supply to ensure it didn't go to sleep/power off.

I recently got 02 Broadband which came with MacAfee, however, the authorisation process didn't work so well, so I downloaded Avira Antivir - Avira installed however keeps showing the following:

So I uninstalled Avira and downloaded AVG - AVG installed but then crashed out with an error message. I attempted to download Avast! and the same happened - it won't let me install anything I've downloaded, so I'm guessing something occurred during the Service Pack update.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Georgiee and welcome to the forums :party:

I would recommend that you do a system restore to before you had the service pack:

Then I would remove whatever anti virus you had installed on your system at that time using the designated removal tool from the manufacturer's website. Take a look at this if you're unsure where to find it:

Then install the service pack through Windows Update

Then create a restore point:

Then install whatever anti virus you want
