Hi everyone, I'm a first time poster but have always gotten a lot of use out of these forums and really appreciate them. Attached is a zip file containing the minidumps and all the other information indicated in the posting guidelines thread. I have also included some system specs here as well as some background on the problem and what I have attempted so far.
System specs:
Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Full Retail
ASUS P5Q Pro Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W PSU
HIS Radeon HD 4870 Video Card
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (two sets for 4x2GB=8GB)
-Everything is stock (no overclocking)
-System is about 2.5 years old (built Feb. 2009), originally had XP installed but did a complete reformat and installed Vista about a year ago.
-I am very conscious about heat-related problems. I have a quality case with excellent ventilation and I keep a close eye on temps, nothing out of the ordinary going on there.
The problem:
Whenever I boot my machine there seems to be about a 50% chance that I get a BSOD error 0x0000003B SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. When I reboot it may happen again (it's happened as many as 5 times in a row), always the same error. Eventually I get lucky and windows loads correctly. Once windows is loaded the system is rock-solid. I can play system-stressing games for many hours without a hiccup or problem. I have never seen the error happen when I boot into Safe Mode. I am attaching the minidumps from the last 4 times I got the error below.
What I've tried so far:
At first I thought I had a faulty or improperly seated memory chip. I tried re-seating, rotating and every possible one and two chip combinations in different slots. Each time I ran Memtest86. No matter how many chips or which slot they were in I would always get an error on Test 5 at the address 00000000000 with a confidence of 80. From what I can tell online about Memtest86 this suggests a possible voltage problem but since the confidence was under 100 I wasn't convinced that was the problem. I manually set the voltage to 2.0V based on the memory specs and kept getting the same error in Memtest86 as before but with confidence over 100. When I ran Microsoft's WinDiag memory test it fails to find any problems. I've read through some of the minidumps but I don't know enough about them to understand what's going on. The fact that once windows loads everything is fine makes me now think that it's a software problem.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
