Have uploaded URL for my system specification page. In case this fails, my machine is an Acer Aspire 5633WLMi, 160 GB hard Drive (55 GB free), 2 GB RAM, loaded with OEM pre-installed Vista Home Premium (updated by now to SP2). System is 3.5 years old.
Early in its operating life the problem started and persists to this day - even in Safe Mode.
When I attempt to save a Window-created file (created using notepad, wordpad or other Windows program) to my hard drive or external flash drive, explorer crashes within 2 secs of clicking on

in the file tree in the left hand pane of the explorer window. Peculiarly the program does not crash with the same invariable consistency if I click on the
computer and I was not very familiar with restore points or the restore process at that time. What can I read into the fact that the problem persists in Safe Mode (with no network support) ?
Follow Kesume's suggestion first then If I were you I would do the following...
1. Run a full updated virus scan using your internet security...
2. Run a full scan using malwarebytes, free version..Malwarebytes
If they both come back with no problems then lets do a sfc scan to see if it will fix it's self.
1. Click start...
2. Type cmd in the search box...
3. When the pop up list comes up go to the top and Right click on cmd.exe and runas adminstrator...
4. When the command box opens then type in sfc /scannow notice there is a space between the sfc and the forward slash. When the scan is done if there are any errors then run it 3 more time as it fix's more each time you run it, also here is the tutorial for doing the sfc.
