Solved Got a bug, now Vista won't acknowledge my username/password?

Hi, need some help please.
Mcafee popped up and said it had removed a Trojan, at just about the same time, one of those fake "Your computer is at risk" windows opens
and begins a false scan. I opened and ran the Advanced system care program and after about 2 minutes the computer died.
When I tried to restart the pc, it asked me for a user name along with my password ( it always only asks for my password...).
Tried any username I could think that it could possibly be (it usually calls me Rufus) along with my password and it kept coming up
saying the user and domain can't be reached or are disconnected (Can't remember the exact wording).
What I usually do if I'm having trouble is reboot in safe mode and do a system restore, but it's not allowing me....
Tried going into F2 or F12 and changing admin and system passwords (which didn't look like they'd ever been set) but it didn't help. Tried F8, F5, reloading windows (didn't give me the option...)
Trying not to have to take it to a repair store as I hear some bad things about them.
Typing from work, any help greatly appreciated.

Well, you seem to have tried most of the usual methods of solving the problem, however I would suggest that you scan your computer with the AVG rescue CD:

AVG - Rescue CD | PC Rescue and Repair Toolkit

Then this video will show you how to download and create the rescue CD, although you will have to do this on another computer:

Thank you Tom. I'll have to work out some way to burn it here at work, most of our workstations don't have burn capabilities.... I greatly appreciate your help.

No worries You can burn it to a USB drive if you aren't able to use a CD, however it is more difficult so lets try the CD first, and if all else fails, then we can use the USB

Tried the usb boot, it gave me the option then went back to the suspicious login screen. I'll try burning a cd hopefully this weekend and let you know how it goes.

Ended up taking it to a shop a friend recommended.
They saved my files and reinstalled Windows.
Cost me a couple of bucks, but now I have home access again.

Ok, glad to hear that the problem has gone

Reinstalling windows will guarantee that the virus is removed so it should be alright now.
