motherboard beeps on start up...

My 2008 Gateway GT 5656 has stopped on start up. It beeps 5 times pause then
continous beeps.
Have done Gateway support search best I can, and can't find beep list for the
motherboard ECS MCP61P-AM .
Seems like it has Phoenix Award workstation BIOS
Chip is AMD Athlon 64x2 6000+

Yes, thanks....I've seen that list. And it appears that the only beep code that applies
is the "5" beeps...indicating Processor.
I assume that is the AMD main chip under the cooling fan. Should I remove and set it ?
I'm not inclinded to bring the computer into the local repair shops. The "word around town"
is that they are snoopy and will look thru out the files/folders on the HD , and none of that
is any of their business.

What experience have you got regarding stripping & replacing components like processors, motherboards etc?
How technically minded are you?

You could remove the disks & let them fix the post boot fault you are experiencing, i.e motherboard, processor etc. Unfortunately this willl cost you money!

Sweet idea....I could unplug the Hard Drive, I've already been into the tower case..no
problem there...give them the motherboard,powersupply,etc....they could use a substitute
HDD to get thing running...then put mine back in. Brilliant

Hi,

As a final note if thats what you are planning to do.

If they change the motherboard you need to ensure that the replacement is as close to your original as possible or Windows could throw a wobbley & you could be locked out of the system when you reconnect your disks (Pirate copy or driver installation errors etc. type stuff).

Yha, they can just use a livecd to boot it up, and you keep yourself safe from prying eyes.
