80% of programs stop working

Just ran a scan in cmd and here is my result.

It found corrupt files but cannot replace them, here is the CBS file.

Please help!

(By the way I did have the BSoD a few times before this started happening)

I have just had a look at that log. Not good. Not good at all. This is not going to be easy.

Right, let us see what we can do. First though, I need to ask you to confirm that you are running SP2, that you are running Vista Ultimate, and may I please ask approximately how old this computer is (number of years)

Just to let you know, I think that this is a hardware fault with your hard disk. We will confirm this, but I think that it is going to come down to needing a new hard disk drive. Sorry :huh:

Right, now please follow these steps:

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

  • Click the None button, followed by the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open one notepad window. OTL.Txt These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of this file, and post them here.

Hello there thanks for your reply.

Will do the bootable diagnostics in a bit, but no malware has been found and here is my OTL.txt

Oh! And my computer is less than three months old....but it seems I'm running on service pack 1.

This is very odd. I have never seen anything like this before. Those files are not corrupt. They have good MD5s. It must be some deeper problem with the database or something. Hmmm.

That OTL log was done perfectly! Well done! Let us see if there is anything we can get out of the program crash reports. Please follow the advice from the post above at some point, but for now prioritise this. After all, the initial conclusions seem to be all wrong, and the laptop is so new!

Install SP2 and all updates if you can, or give me your error message.

Now, please run steps 1, 2A, 3 (about 15 minutes), 4, 5, and then Step 1 from the top yellow box, but only follow this last one if Integrity Violations were found. Please upload the new sfcdetails.txt from your Desktop. System Files - SFC Command

See if the problem has been fixed. I have loads more ideas, but I don't want to make this post look too scary! We will come to them later as and when.
