Hello Steve, and welcome to the Vista Forums!
I have just had a look at that log. Not good. Not good at all. This is not going to be easy.
(for any experts: parsed log uploaded below)
Right, let us see what we can do. First though, I need to ask you to confirm that you are running SP2, that you are running Vista Ultimate, and may I please ask approximately how old this computer is (number of years)
Right, now please follow these instructions. I know that you are not exactly asking about the BSoD, but it helps me to know.

Just to let you know, I think that this is a hardware fault with your hard disk. We will confirm this, but I think that it is going to come down to needing a new hard disk drive. Sorry
Right, now please follow these steps:
OTL -
Download or alternative link
here and
here
Download
OTL to your Desktop
- Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:
/md5start
ddraw.dll
esent.dll
batang.ttc
MSHWCHTR.dll
C_20127.NLS
mshwkorr.dll
WindowsMailGadget.exe
NlsModels0011.dll
shell32.dll
/md5stop
- Click the None button, followed by the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
- When the scan completes, it will open one notepad window. OTL.Txt These are saved in the same location as OTL.
- Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of this file, and post them here.
Right, now let us do some hardware diagnostics. Below courtesy of usasma:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these
bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)
Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans toensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised:

I know this is a lot to be getting on with, but it all needs to be done. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask about anything!
