I did a system restore after my laptops firewall and anti virus was shut down. Once I logged back on everything seemed normal until once I logged in my desktop turned to a light blue color and all i can do was go onto the internet I couldn't even get into windows explorer through the task manager to reopen my desktop. The internet is the only thing i can access. Does anyone have any ideas of what i can do to fix this?
do you have the start menu/taskbar or any desktop icons? The light blue background is usually the windows default background. Why did you system restore in the first place?
I have the start button but can't access it and i did the system restore because of a virus that shut down my firewall and antivirus. I used my anti virus AVG to scan it but it didn't find it, so i did system restore. Also I can't get any thing on the desktop i can't even right click the desktop. The only way I can get on the internet is through the task bar.
Hum well it would seem that your system restore point is corrupt. So i would suggest (if you can) restore to a prior system restore point (there is usually alot unless you frequently clean them) or install a clean version of windows. If you want to try and fix the issue I would start looking at your system services. I'm willing to bet lots are turned off. Also have you tried booting in safe mode? If not do that and let me know if what happens.
What exactly do you mean updating? and can you do anything other than the task manager? I don't believe theres a way to system restore from the task manager.
all i can do is internet besides task Manager. By updating i mean that after I turn the computer on or off it says that its is updating like 1 of 3 parts or something. It hasent updated in a while lately.
hum since you got to system restore can you get to anything else? Is your taskbar back? System restore saves a flash image copy of your windows at that save point. So you should have your docs and configs. As for programs you should have them too. But at this point your windows is probably corrupt. So imo find your docs, pics, and whatever. Save them and either attempt to repair your system using the os dics or do a complete format. If you need help on how to do that I can explain.
yea hes right. You can force format your disk but its not recommended. Also as stated above. You would need a disc to re-install the OS. You can torrent a copy to use the repair feature but if your going to reinstall you need your own CD key otherwise its not legal and I do not condone it in any way. Hope that helps.
ok i have found your problem. Its called Bamital-AE its a virus that infects key system components and corrupts system restore points. Its not curable yet since it infects winlogon and explorer as well as redirects your IE to ad sites. So I would highly suggest a format since it can't be removed yet, but i'm looking into it.
alright. The only way i found to delete it is to remove your hard drive and connect it to another computer. boot that computer in its normal OS. from there you can back up files and delete the virus which should be found in your documents or shared documents folder of one of the user accounts in a file called system. delete the whole file (its hidden so you have to check un-hide folders too see it) and that will remove the virus. Start your system in safe mode with networking and create a new user account. The boot normaly and use that new account to scan your system with a virus scanner and clean it out and you should be good to go back to your normal account. (reset your internet explorer too by going to internet options, advanced, reset, and make sure to check the box to remove add on stuff or whatever that is) or your can reformat. Either way let me know what you choose and what the outcome is.
also you can scan the hard drive with anti virus software once its in another host machine. Make sure that machine has good protection too. Also do this at your own risk as hard drive damage can occur. So back up your files and have that format disk ready just in case something goes wrong. Don't boot the OS on the hard drive when its in the other host machine either. So make sure you know how to enter your BIOS or boot menu to change the boot order to the systems normal hard disk.
