Good Day to Everyone
I've got a little problem. I recently received a used HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop as a gift. I removed all the other user's programs and all was running well. I then loaded on the usual things like Avast!, Spybot, and Firefox (it already had Chrome). All was fine for about a week or two.
Last evening, I was online and my screen locked with slanted vertical lines. Everything was frozen. I rebooted into Safe Mode and ran all my anti-virals, defrag, and cleanup software. All came back saying the computer was clean.
Oh, the one program I did delete was Maxthon II, because I started to get a .dll error. I don't remember what the file name was exactly. That was two days ago.
Anyway, this morning I started it up Normal Mode and did some stuff. No issues. Then tonight, I was in Chrome and got a warning saying that chrome.exe was corrupt and to run chkdsk. I thought, Uh Oh, Here we go again.
I went to turn chkdsk on and the whole thing crashed. Now, the best I can get are blue lights but no boot up at all.
I don't have a boot disc due to this being a gift. And I don't know how to proceed.
Thank you in advance for any help that you can point me to. Oh, I don't know what flavor of Vista 32bit it is. I'm guessing Home.
