Freezing, White Screen, Idles Causing Freezing

Issue: Computer started freezing after a complete factory recovery.

Ok so the computer started freezing after a factory recovery I had Dualboot of Vista HP 32bit and Ubuntu 10.04. Well I decided I didn't want Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer anymore so I went to Google and downloaded EasyBCD to rewrite the bootloader. After the rewrite I restarted the computer let the computer load up restarted the computer and put in the recovery disc. I did a Factory Recovery as I said. Well after that I noticed I don't see Gateway Splash screen where it says hit F1 F2 or whatever to enter setup. Didn't really pay any attention to that so I'm on my computer after the recovery and went away to do something. I came back to my computer after how ever long and noticed the computer was frozen. Well at least the keyboard of mouse would not work.

(I knew keyboard wasn't working because when I pressed num lock the light just stayed on)

So after a hard restart in which HDD check didn't come up but it did give the windows didn't shutdown correct screen and gave a choice between normal or safe mode. Anyway I did some looking 3 days straight found out turn off screen saver and screen turning off in power settings. So I did well the problem seemed to go away. Or at least it seemed like it did. I just wasn't leaving the computer idle for longer than 15 mins. Well as you can imagine it happened again so I went deep in to power settings turned off harddrive turning off after 20 mins which is default I guess in high performance power settings which I have it set to. Well It seemed to fix it because the computer does freeze any more. WOOT! But no I came in my room after only God knows how long and white screen of death. My LCD Monitor (19' AOC LCD Monitor VGA Connected) was all white nothing. I was pissed so I didn't even give the computer time to respond I just hard restarted.

I've looked and looked all over the googler and found nothing useful to my situation. Anyone that can help me plz help!

I don't think this is a blue screen of death problem, but hey it sucks to have a broken computer. Defragment the computer. load any CDs that came with your hardware. Did u update everything? (drivers and anything else that can be updated, just for updating sake). And just to be thorough, did u install any other software before it started freezing? Make sure your hard drive is not completely full. Test the memory by running Windows Memory Diagnostic just by typing it into search. I've read where it was recommended to turn off any IM service as it lowers security and slows down the system. As well, make sure you don't have a lot of things running at once, and make sure you don't have too many items running at startup. Windows defender > tools > startup programs (do this before installing new anti-virus protection, as that turns defender off. If u need to, temporarily turn defender back on just to list the startup programs), and see if too many programs are loading early and if you even want them to load at all. too many currently running and startup programs can slow down your system.

Check if you have a virus. If you don't have an anti-virus, recommend Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. Check and make sure device manager does not list any non-updated drivers. If your computer cannot handle some aspects of vista like its theme, high display settings, and windows features that take up a lot of resources, turn as much as you can off so that they do not slow your computer. Your computer isn't getting too hot is it? I wouldn't let my computer get hotter than 60C~135F, but some computers cannot handle even those temperatures.

If you are willing to invest in more, buy some more ram. I would try having a total of 4GBs. There may be more that you can buy, like a new harddrive (Yours is not bad, actually), but before you know it you've bought a new system. you have a 300 watt system, so likely it cannot handle very much power drawing hardware. try saving power by enabling balanced in the power options, but only if you feel your system isn't getting enough power. However 300 watts should be enough.

So I did a RAM Test via memtest86 passed sweet! CPU does get hot 62-63 C (on normal load like web surfing) I'm looking for ways to get it cooler. Sorry if this is wrong place to post for this but Crashes / BSOD I thought freezes would be a form of a crash. I might be mistaken though.

Honestly, I think this is the right place for your problem, I don't know what I was talking about. And if you have done everything that I've said, someone else may need to help u out, because that is about the extent of what I know. good luck though

*Edit* you may look into checking if your hardware is good, cause the heat can really fry it
