I am assuming this is the correct Forum for this discussion.
I am using an ASUS laptop, which I bought in 2008. Here are my system specs:
Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
Model: ASUS Notebook M51Kr Series
Processor: AMD Turion (tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
Memory: 2.00 GB
I am running Windows Home Premium 32-bit, which came preloaded with factory settings.
Several weeks ago, after restarting my computer, I logged on to what appeared to be another account within the computer. This account had a similar desktop to my normal one, with a few folders missing, and its version of Firefox had none of my bookmarks or saved passwords. There were other differences too, such as it didn't remember windows live settings, differect text sizes, basic display settings etc. The background was the same.
Windows hadn't done this before, and after restarting my computer again it reverted to the normal account. Since then, each time I've turned my computer back on, it has logged onto this seperate user account first, before logging back onto my original account on following startups. I have looked for this answers to this problem, but because I could easily overcome it by restarting my computer, it didn't bother me much.
This afternoon however, I restarted my computer and it has logged onto the incorrect user account, but after restarting/logging off, it isn't going back to my original account. I have only ever had the one user account, lets call it "original" (at least what I think is the original), but I understand there are other accounts (default, asus, public, etc) that lie within the "C:\Users" folder. After looking through these folders, I have realised the "C:\Users\Asus" contains all the app data and desktop icons as I am used to.
I can't see this "Asus" account from the logon screen, so basically what I'm asking for help with is logging on as this account and setting it as the default logon account. I am also aware this problem could be from errors in the registry or the harddisk. I was also wondering if anyone could suggest a good registry checker, and a good harddisk checker.
I will continue to look elsewhere for answers to my problem also, but any help you could give me would be deeply appreciated. I'm also thinking of buying a new computer, because I'm sick of the dramas with this laptop, but my natural curiosity is compelling me to figure this all out.
