Windows vista home premium blue screen error

Hi, first of all, i'm not particularly experienced with computers

Ok so, Roughly 3 days ago, my computer failed to run startup, it displayed the startup screen but the loading bar would freeze for about 1 second then run for about 5 then freeze again for 1 and it would keep doing this untill the computer was reset, in the end i had to completly format my HD and after doing so, it seemed to run fine (it's done this before sometime last year and the same method fixed it back then) however, today it came up with the same issue, but instead of allowing me to go to the Startup Repair screen this time it just Displayed:

STOP: c000021a {fatal system error} The verification of a knownDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x875be818 0x00000000). the system has been shut down

So i decided to shut down the Laptop and re-start it, this time however it allowed access to the Startup Repair Screen, however, The only working options are Advanced options (ChkDsk, Notepad & Command Prompt) The options that don't are: "Start Microsoft Windows Repair Environment", "Reinstall Windows" and "Exit and restart computer"

I have Tried Using the Backup DVD disc that came with the Computer But i Just get the Same Results

Any help would be greatly Appreciated

Do you have a vista disk ?.
Can you get into safe mode ?.
If you can get to a command promt type sfc/scannow press enter and let it scan, if errors are found, you may have to do this more than once, until he system is clean.

thanks, at the moment the computer in question is down at a repair shop [as of 30 min ago] so if it comes back unchanged i will try this

one further note upon turning the computer on it would only display 'launch startup repair manager (reccomended)' and 'start windown normally' (which would result in the first issue stated in my first post)
